Bush says he regrets issue of Wolfowitz's leadership ‘has come to this’
MSNBC has this as breaking news, but then what do they know?

World Bank, Wolfowitz discussing his exit

President wants face-saving deal, ability to leave on his own terms

Wolfowitz and the Bush administration were seeking a face-saving deal with the board that would allow him to resign under his own terms and escape some blame for the furor involving his girlfriend’s compensation.

President Bush on Thursday seemed resigned to the possibility that World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz could lose his job over conflict-of-interest charges involving his girlfriend.

“I regret that it has come to this,” Bush said during a press conference for British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s final White House visit of his tenure as Prime Minister. “I admire Paul Wolfowitz ... I admire his focus on helping the poor.” Bush also said Wolfowitz has the bank’s best interests at heart.

1. "Leave on his own terms":
1. Bonus paid whether or not Wolfowitz is connected with the World Bank June 1.
2. Clean record with no fault or demerits for anything he did or might have done.
3. Golden Parachute, Baby!

2. Yeah, it's always regrettable when ethics get in the way...
I too admire his focus on helping the poor--especially while he's dating her.

3. Yeah, it sucks when...
these guys are held accountable for their actions.
The usual guideline in business is that one must avoid impropriety as well as the appearance of impropriety.
This clown would have been terminated for cause anywhere in corporate America.
Of course, soooo many of the rules that apply to us don't apply to these high-powered scumbags.
Wolfie...It's over, get the net!

4. Does anyone know if the girlfriend's law trouble came up yet - i.e.,
is Toensing still with the girfriend and is there going to be a confrontation/tribunal about double dipping employment or benefit,s plus conflict of interest?

8. "escape some blame"
Yes, it was all someone else's fault that he was fucking an employee and using his influence to get her a job at another government agency.
