John Mayer Picks Presidential Candidate John Edwards
John Mayer Picks Presidential Candidate John Edwards

John Mayer has tipped presidential candidate John Edwards to reach the White House because he "connects" with the youth of America. The Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter met Edwards for the first time at the Time Magazine 100 gala in New York City last week.

Edwards reveals he sought advice from the 29-year-old singer on how to impress young voters. The Democratic candidate says, "He was talking about the language of young people, his generation.

"He basically said, 'You've got to get me in the first 20 seconds. I watch movies on YouTube, and if they're 25 seconds long, they're five seconds too long.'"

1. I wonder how this will affect his relationship with Jessica Simpson.
I would hope he would chose a candidate based upon more than a sound clip. It's quite shallow.

2. Nice that he's choosing a candidate....
but this is from someone who thinks: "one day our generation is going to rule the population" equates to deep and profound lyrics.

3. "'You've got to get me in the first 20 seconds."????

Geeze, not even the used-to-be 30 second needed to close the deal in these days of Sound Byte mentality and instant gratification I see. How deep and profound.....NOT! :eyes:

Edited to add....but I shouldn't even ask who this person is....cause if I ain't never heard of him (which I haven't), he couldn't be all that important in the world of politics or entertainment, FAIC.

4. It's your loss if you're not familiar with John Mayer's work
as it is quite good. Why he's dating Jessica Simpson, beyond the obvious attributes, I can't imagine.

However, celebrity endorsements rank about 99th on a list of 100 reason to back a candidate.

Ps. I am not Dinger, and Dinger is not me, FYI. We are not interchangeable last I checked.

10. Jeeze, you'd be singing his praises everywhere Frenchie if he endorsed Obama.
Very consistent but in the dishonest way.

6. It's mildly amusing that 29 is considered "young people"
when it used to be that some young people said you shouldn't trust anyone over 30.

I'm glad Mayer is supporting a Dem, glad he likes JRE, but I'm not sure people who are under 25, for example, would necessarily see him as representative of the "youth of America" (nor would anyone else necessarily see him as speaking for him/her). It would have been better if the author of the linked article had been a little clearer about exactly what was said.

8. ANYONE Who Can Tap Into A Semi-Younger Generation... Move Them
enough to say "I Support" much less get them out to ACTUALLY vote may actually have a REAL shot at grabbing the nomination!

I have many reasons for my support for Edwards, some that may be purely "simple" however... never FORGET Sista Soldya for Clinton!!

I'm a Boomer and I can tell you that when I went to see him in person way back in '92 in Gainesville, FL I KNEW Bill Clinton was going to WIN!

So, if Edwards can "excite" the 20 to 30 year olds... he has MO!!!

IMHO!!

9. Does not sound like good advice
Mayer is the one singing the most wimpy protest song of all time.

Not arguing, not fighting, not grouping together to change the way things are. We are lazy, therefore we are 'waiting for the world to change'.

This Mayer guy is the biggest pussy on the planet (not to mention a singing range of less than an entire octave).

Its like asking for advice from Barney the Dinosaur.

Ugh. I hope Edwards doesn't share his passive attitude.
