Great response by Kucinich to media question about Kerry "story."

Dennis Kucinich was in L.A. the other day and made an appearance before the media in MacArthur Park. In response to a question about the John Kerry "story" (I think we need a symbol to represent "the John Kerry story," don't you think?) Kucinich responded something like:

(disdainfully): "I'm not going comment on that. Listen, I don't spend a single moment thinking about those things, or talking about them, even in casual conversation."

Then he went on to talk about jobs and the economy. This guy is all about issues.

2. Why are we duping this?
I dunno.

But as I said there, he's free to stick on issues, since he doesn't have to focus on beating Kerry.

Later.

3. "he doesn't have to focus on beating Kerry"
Shows how little YOU perceive. :)

DK is totally focussed on getting the nomination. Gaining the nomination will mean, as a side-effect, that Kerry will not get it. Which means he will 'beat' Kerry.

But you're right on one level: he's tightly focussed on the positive version of that outcome rather than the negative one.

7. He can be focused on being the first man to flap his arms and fly...
...but it doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

Later.

19. He may get more votes in WI than Howard Dean
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 01:13 PM by bobthedrummer
on Tuesday.
He isn't farout to citizens of Wisconsin at all.
His issues are the people's issues here, there and everywhere.
When Dean went negative here he hurt his remaining chances of winning whereas Dennis Kucinich is positive.
DK could beat Howard Dean here, he is going to get some delegates here for sure.

4. All about issues ..
Kucinich:

From ABC News' Kucinich campaign reporter Melinda Arons: New York, Feb. 13 -- In what can only be described as perhaps the most bizarre episode yet in the 2004 presidential campaign (which is saying a lot when the candidate in question has been known to participate in collective meditation rituals at fundraisers), Rep. Kucinich stopped by the Tonight Show Thursday night and participated in a spoof of "The Dating Game."

The image of a presidential candidate standing next to Jay Leno on a retro psychadelic game show set was surreal enough, but the contestants' fame and racy answers made it downright Fellini-esque. The participants included Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly, the lithe blonde Republican/radio megastar consultant Kim Serafin, and actress Cybil Shepherd.

Some highlights (or, one could argue, lowlights):
* Jennifer Tilly asking in her best Betty Boop voice "How's your hanging chad?"
* Cybil Shepherd screaming "I'm ready for a wardrobe malfunction!" after which she lifted up her dress to reveal satin pink underwear.
* Shepherd towering over Kucinich and trying to make out with him after not being picked, then reprising the skrit-lifting to make sure Kucinich had the chance to see it.
* Serafin, in what's safe to call a politically incorrect answer, claiming that if she were First Lady and the Chinese president came to the White House, she assumes he'd be bringing take-out so would order the number 4.

Kucinich ended up choosing Bachelorette number 1, Jennifer Tilly, and seemed genuinely shocked and delighted a the contestants' true identities. One can only assume he would have preferred to stay and have a real interview with Jay before heading out, but instead the vegan and his date were sent to dinner on the show at the raw food eatery Raw.

6. Good for Dennis

Dennis is a general in the war against NAFTA and WTO. Whatever forum he can use to get publicity (besides clan rallies (Smoochie Must Die!!!)) helps.

ABC thinks they are hurting Kucinich by writing stuff like this. But they are actually HELPING him. Deep down the guy realizes that he WILL NOT be receiving the nomination. He is there to get HIS issues into the debate ENDING NAFTA AND WTO.

Edwards is catching on do Dennis' thunder. And he will get a LOT of votes by pressuring Kerry to get VERY clear on the issue. If he forces Kerry to adopt an anti free trade platform, even better. Then Democrats will be united behind the issue that will deliver all branches of federal government: ENDING THE JOBS DESTRUCTION PROGRAM KNOWN COLLECTIVELY AS FREE TRADE, MANIFESTED IN NAFTA, WTO, H-1B, LZ-1, OTHER NON IMMIGRANT WORK VISAS, CAFTA and whatever other "globalization" quasi global governmental organizations they can come up with.

During the Clinton years, there was a real fear amongst the tin-foil hatters and militias that he was pushing for the "new world order", global government. They were right AND wrong. They thought the threat was the UN. The UN has ZERO enforcement powers. It is a COMPLETELY powerless organization.

The true New World Order is the World Trade Organization and other trade dispute organizations. These unelected boards of corporate representatives have the ability to veto the sovereign laws of the United States IN COMPLETE SECRECY. And you thought the Bush administration was tight lipped.

Nope, WTO IS THE DEVIL!!!!! And we should get this rhetoric out to all the folks down south who don't want to be ruled by anyone who IS NOT an American.

9. Folks down south know
Ending NAFTA and getting out of the WTO are planks in the Texas Republican party platform.

It's neo-liberals who need a clue or three.

And Kerry loves the WTO.

12. This is the danger ...

The danger here is that a flip-flop will occur by which REPUBLICANS go anti-corporate along with there VERY right wing social agenda. Minority voters would effectively be COMPLETELY disenfranchised.

Then social liberals will have NO PLACE to go. They will have effectively divide the nation in such a way that real change would be IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

I believe this is the aim of the "New World Order" crowd. Split the American vote in a way that splits half of progressives into two different parties ... AND disenfranchise the rest of progressives.

Nope the Democrats MUST OPPOSE world trade at a PARTY LEVEL. There is NO PLACE for pro WTO folks in the Democratic Party. Sorry, but there is NO PLACE for Clinton in the Democratic Party.

WTO is the MOST SERIOUS threat to Democracy that the United States HAS EVER seen. The Soviets were an easily recognized EXTERNAL threat. WTO and corporatism is festering wound from within the United States itself.

If Democrats OPPOSE free trade, they will have ARMIES of political reresentatives who will stump for them. All the big campaign money won't be NEARLY as important. The Democrats will be the party for good, the Republicans would be the party for EVIL. Pure and simple.

John Kerry, please get a clue on this issue. I will be pulling for Edwards as the only reasonable alternative now.

16. Obviously HE agreed.
Painful WHY? Because you don't have a sense of humor?

A whole lot of people thought Kucinich was always scowling, angry, and intense until he did these late night talk shows and showed his playful humorous side.

But then we're all extremely familiar with how you percieve anything Kucinich does as "painful" and stupid.:eyes:

17. I liked his appearance.
He had a good time and to me, it showed again what a genuine man he is. He actually looked, at times, a little embarassed in a boyish way. Very charming.

I think he especially liked Tilly's answer to the one about what she would do as first lady if he lost his voice before giving his acceptance speech. To which she responsed, "My husband thought he was going to lose so he didn't write an acceptance speech and had to make up a story about laryngitis."

Hopeful. Sense of humor. Dennis all the way.
