Edwards Statement on White House Opposition to Troop Pay Raise Passed by House

Edwards Statement on White House Opposition to Troop Pay Raise Passed by the House of Representatives
John Edwards for President
Friday, May 18, 2007

----
Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards released the following statement today urging the White House to reverse its recent decision to oppose the pay raise for the troops passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2008 defense authorization bill.

"The President should immediately revoke his decision to oppose the House version of the 2008 defense authorization bill. The White House's harsh statement that the House's improved benefits for soldiers and widows are 'unnecessary' is part and parcel of this Administration's neglect of our troops and their families. The Department of Defense has already extended tours in Iraq from 12 to 15 months — a decision that I have said borders on the unconscionable. I believe we need to do everything we can to better stand by those who stand by us — and we can start with improved pay and death benefits."

4. He's a good human being... and he would be a great president...
He just needs to be more careful on how he projects himself on the campaign trail.

5. I think you're right on all counts
And if he wins the office, I do believe he could attain greatness as the good Democrat who came in to straighten out a country Bush and his party have spent years gleefully dismantling.

He's not my primary choice, but that could change with so much time remaining. Even if he doesn't get my primary vote, I could vote for him in the General with far fewer misgivings than I feel for some of the other candidates.

8. He's always the first out
the gate with his statements......He doesn't need a team of spin doctors checking and rewriting it all ten times before it hits the door - I can't wait until he's sworn in :)

K&R!!

9. This is a major reason I support Edwards
We need a leader in the White House, not a slave to the polls.
