John Edwards endorses pro-labor Oregon legislation
John Edwards endorses Oregon legislation
From Blue Oregon:

From the Oregon AFL-CIO's weekly newsletter, there's news that Senator John Edwards took time out from his presidential campaign to study and endorse HB 2891, currently under consideration by the Oregon legislature. The bill, sometimes known as "card check," would let workers create a union when a majority of workers have signed cards saying they want to do that.

We’ve long known that our Majority Sign-Up bill was a good idea for Oregon workers. Today it also has the backing of Sen. John Edwards, who was in Oregon last week as he campaigned for President.

In a letter to Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain, Sen. Edwards wrote:

HB 2891 would allow public sector workers in Oregon to form a union and bargain collectively if a majority of workers sign cards expressing that desire. I am convinced that if individuals can join the Republican or Democratic parties by simply signing their names to a card, any worker in America ought to be able to join a union by doing exactly the same thing.
By protecting a worker’s right to join a union, we give more Americans the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty and into the middle class, which is why I have been all over this country the past few years working with over 20 national unions organizing thousands of workers into unions.

1. It Doesn't Much Matter - And He Knows It
Johnny Hedge Fund voted for job-obliterating permanent 'free' trade with China - the Middle Class gets to fight for the scraps that are left, unions won't help much.

It's so disturbing to me that a man who voted for all kinds of really, really evil stuff - permanent 'free' trade with China, both awful bankruptcy bills, and so forth - now turns around (in his 28,000 square foot house!) and proclaims himself as a protector of the little guy and gal.

Boy, are we stupid.

3. Sadly No - Unless We Stop 'Free' Trade
The jobs just get offshored. The unions become irrelevant, because the jobs are simply gone.

I'm very, very pro union - but unionizing now is like handing a man a cap gun to go into a tank battle.

6. Tell me about it
I don't mind advocating a candidate, or expressing dissatisfaction with another, but these mindless attacks are ridiculous. Name-calling, snide belittling, and all around general nastiness have no place in the discourse. And yes, I mean that about ANY candidate, not just Edwards.

9. Edwards makes news daily and most of his DU supporters
enjoy reading about the issues than having to slog through "threads of concern".

I appreciate John Locke's efforts! :toast:

There's also a nightly news roundup on Daily Kos which includes items from the MSM and Citizen Journalists. Several of Edwards supporters rotate this fine effort, here's last night's copy:

11. OOPS I posted this in Labor today

I'm not taking shots an ANY democratic candidate. Let the right wingers do that. I will support the parties nominee. (Sounds Republican to me :-) ) It is good to see several candidates that have been friendly in the past to labor openly saying so.

Great post!
