10,000 transportation workers protest in Washington D.C. - 05/18/07

By Jesse Russell

A rally of nearly 10,000 transportation workers was held in Washington DC on Thursday, calling attention to Bush administration policies concerning air and rail workers. International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers President Tom Buffenbarger called for a new President who isn’t “deaf and blind” to “rampant injustice.” Buffenbarger said ‘hundreds of thousands of workers lost jobs, pensions, and health care while CEOs and senior executives gorged themselves with outrageous compensation packages.” IAM Transportation Vice President Robert Roach added that Thursday marked the day “we begin our search for a president who will work with transportation labor to provide secure jobs, pensions and benefits.” Also in attendance were a number of democrat presidential hopefuls.
