Poll Shows Buckeyes pick Clinton, Giuliani
(AP-Columbus, OH) -- A new poll of presidential candidates shows Ohio democrats favor Senator Hillary Clinton and state Republicans favor former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute found that Clinton led Illinois Senator Barak Obama 38 percent to 19 percent among Democrats.

Giuliani led Arizona Senator John McCain 23 percent 17 percent.

In head-to-head matchups, Giuliani and Clinton are in a statistical dead heat in Ohio.

9. Yup...because one poll refutes ALL the others that people have posted showing otherwise.

12. There have been far more showing her weak numbers in the GE when compared to both Edwards and Obama
If it's been more than one that shows otherwise they've been mightily overshadowed by the numerous ones that show her weaker than the others. For the above OP to take THIS ONE poll that you posted and to think that it somehow nullifies all the others is laughable.

Even she's a step up.

Why did you avoid the topic about the other polls to tell me that instead though?

See,this is what makes me laugh.I think all polls suck and should be taken with extra-large grains of salt. But a lot of people see only the polls they agree with. You're here everyday, you had to have seen the other ones by now.Are you one of those who only see what they agree with,or do you admit there are plenty of other polls that show Clinton as the weakest of the three in the General Election?

16. Not plenty actually none showing her the weakest of the three.

17. Who to believe. You,or my own lying eyes?
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/match_ups/election_2008_gop_presidential_matchups

See Hillary against Romney. Not only the weakest of the three, but even weaker than Richardson does against him.

General Election Match–Ups Show Obama Strength

The Zogby International survey also tested several combinations of possible 2008 presidential general election match–ups, pairing the top three candidates from each party:

Giuliani 47%, Clinton 40%
Giuliani 40%, Obama 46%
Giuliani 46%, Edwards 40%
(Hillary tied for last)

McCain 47%, Clinton 39%
McCain 40%, Obama 44%
McCain 47%, Edwards 38%
(Hillary in 2nd...by a point)

Romney 35%, Clinton 45%
Romney 29%, Obama 51%
Romney 32%, Edwards 47%
(Hillary in last)

http://www.zogby.com/News/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1252
(old poll, but enough to show you're wrong about there being none)

Newsweek polls: Dems against Romney
Clinton - 57% to 35%
Obama - 58% to 29%
Edwards - 64% to 24%
http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/5/6/1368/33043
(Recent poll. That's Hillary last...again,so much for there being "none" as you claimed)

For the record,I don't give a shit about these polls at all.I think any of our main candidates can beat any of theirs (main or otherwise). But to claim there are "none" that show Hillary last is obviously false (because here are two that took a minute to find...and we all know there have been more posted here, hence Tellurians exclamation in the first place. If there hadn't been those polls there would be no need to point out that those who touted said polls should take a hike). This leads me to believe that you, like all too many supporters of any candidate, are one of the ones who sees only the polls they agree with.

3. yet everywhere else, Romney and Obama or Edwards lead
what's with Ohio? You have to wonder why the sample is so divergent from other polls in the surrounding states.

Oh, wait, I'm supposed to accept Hillary as inevitable. I forgot for a second there.
My bad.

5. sure, California, Iowa, Penn, New Hampshire and Florida
Nevada, Georgia, Vermont, Washington, Maryland, and New Jersey.
Try looking outside your own office, bucko. The real world does not accept the inevitability of Hillary.

Keep reading your own polls.

7. The campaigns aren't running in Ohio yet so the poll is largely a measure of name identification.
Put more faith (but still very little faith because it's so early) in the Iowa and New Hampshire polls where the campaigns are most active.

8. "highest...favorability ratings go to Edwards (+43 percent)...Clinton (+42)... Gore...Obama, at +37"
Here is the central finding of the poll:

Rather than traditional horse race measures, the Ohio Poll gauged favorability-unfavorability opinions.

Among Democrats, the highest net favorability ratings go to Edwards (+43 percent) and Clinton (+42). Not far behind are Gore and Obama, at +37 each.

Republican voters gave Giuliani their highest mark (+43), over McCain (+35). Far behind are Thomson at +20, and Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, both +11. However, Thompson rating was 21-1; the rest didn't know enough about him to register an opinion.

“These results provide a snapshot of the early impressions Democratic and Republican registered voters have of their potential party nominees,” said the Ohio Poll's official news release. “ Candidate name recognition and net favorability ratings may change as voters learn more about the candidates, their respective campaign messages and issue positions.”

19. And not just Ohio
We need to pick off at least one among Ohio, Florida, Virginia. Right now Ohio is the most favorable, to any of our candidates. But if we nominate Hillary, it's likely she will only have a big chance in Ohio, among those three states. Florida and Virginia would be uphill. It's similar to 2000 and 2004, limiting the margin for error.

Ohio wants to vote our way. I have no idea how anyone can celebrate a poll showing our candidate in a dead heat with Guiliani in Ohio. That means the head-to-head matchup is forfeiting our natural advantage.
