More Information
In 34 years of service in the United States Army, Wesley K. Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. Since retiring from the military in 2000, he has taken on the roles of investment banker, author, commentator and businessman. In September 2003, he answered the call to stand as a Democratic candidate for President of the United States, where his campaign won the state of Oklahoma and launched him to national prominence before he returned to the private sector in February 2004. In his final military command, General Clark commanded Operation Allied Force-NATO's first major combat action, which saved 1.5 million Albanians from "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo. He also was responsible for the peacekeeping operation in Bosnia. Born in Chicago and raised in Little Rock, Ark., Clark distinguished himself early as an athlete and a scholar, leading his high school swimming team to a state championship and graduating first in his class from West Point. In 1966, he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

3. Awesome!

I just hope that when he's asked about his '08 intentions, he's ditched the same one-liner..

..""I haven't said that I'm not running"

And will actually have a NEW answer!

Something like..

"Yes, I'm running and I'll announce next week"

or even..

"I'll be running on Governor Richardson's ticket as his VP"

ANYTHING but that same line!!!!

Let us know how it went (even if he doesn't mention 2008)

13. But we don't really believe that what you think is that relevant.....
Edited on Mon May-21-07 10:05 PM by FrenchieCat
and since he's not charging anything, bringing up the matter of speaking fees is quite smalll of you. Are you saying that he's calculating to speak now just to be able to charge something later?

And "obscure" is relative. As far as Generals goes, this one has been pretty much in the GOP's face in 2002. :eyes:

14. From what I gathered from a brief search into this speech, it seems that he will recieve a fee -
Edited on Mon May-21-07 10:11 PM by smalll
just because it's free doesn't mean the speaker isn't paid. Speeches like this one, at a university, are often free, to encourage student and community attendance. I don't think he's probably getting much more than a thousand for it, but give speeches as often as Clark does, and it's a nice little salary.

I don't blame Clark, after all, he HASN'T said he will run, he just leaves the door open because he knows it increases interest in him, and helps him in his current career which seems to consist of paid punditry, paid speechmaking, and book tours. The dude's not running. He's a sensible man, he can see as well as most people that if he actually announced for president he'd be lucky to find himself in the second tier. With slightly worse luck, he'd languish in the lowest tier of Presidential hell, along with Gravel, Tancredo, Kucinich, Gilmore and other irrelevancies.

15. Thanks for your insight!

(you made sense on the fee part......and are correct that free to us doesn't necessarily mean free to the speakers group who may be sponsoring this)....

But I'm keeping hope alive, if you don't mind!

Considering the Dem top tier is made up entirely of Senators and former Senators, why I am not surprised that Gen. Clark would "languish" in the lowest tier of Prez hell? Guess that's why, thus far, we have been getting our just deserts; all brought to you by those who decided for us who the top tier would be. After all, read my sig!

16. Nice sig actually! I see where you're coming from.
I'm afraid I too strongly feel the weight of the fact that the presidential choice IS "American Idol." :(

4. If it's anything like the last speech,
it will knock your socks off. Clark addressed the Center for Politics and Foreign Relations, Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), The Johns Hopkins University last week (for audio link, see www.securingamerica.com) and laid out what is wrong with our country and clear steps to take to fix our problems in the world community. I have not heard such a straight-forward, insightful and expert means to tackle what we face and what has been wrong from any of our current "top tier" candidates put together. Wes Clark gets it and can tell us exactly what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Right after the Stanford speech, he heads back East the following day to headline the Spring Kick-off for the Washington & Lee University Mock Convention. This man has much to say and more ought to be listening.

6. Happy to be the fifth to recommend!
:hi:

I wish he'd come back to speak in Tennessee. He was going to be at our J/J Dinner in Nashville last year, but ended up having to do something with his family and couldn't make it (I don't begrudge him family time, btw, I just MISS him).

17. Don’t miss if you are close
I attended two political rally’s where General Clark gave a speech and he knows what he is talking about, if he was President we would probably be the greatest countries on earth, instead of being run into the ground by bu$h!
