6. Any functional difference between a 'forum' and a 'blog'? |
|
Thank you for your helpful replies.
Another question regarding blogs. There is no fixed definition that clearly distinguishes a blog from a discussion forum (or blog...) such as DU. While many blogs may be the product of just one author, many other blogs allow for membership and commentary. Thus a blog functions like a community discussion (such as right here) an 'old fashioned' e-mail listserv with greatly expanded features. While DU and the Daily Kos have different features and editorial policies, they both consist of a community that discusses common areas of interest.
Thus it would seem that a blog is best defined as either a one-way conversation, or a multi-party conversation, with varying levels of centralized editorial controls. The word 'blog' seems to mean, in practice, a web site for updated conversation (as most bloggers seek feedback, conversation seems to be the common denominator).
Any thoughts on how the word blog is used and defined?
