Rep. Obey says the Dems haven't decided on the Iraq supplimental
Okay, so we're all mad because we heard that the Dems have caved...but have they? This just went up on Daily Kos:

Iraq Deal or No Deal?

by mcjoan
Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:13:50 PM EDT
The AP has played games on this one before, seemingly with the help of someone or someones in the party on the Hill, but according to The New York Times and Rep. Obey, the discussions about what to do on the Iraq supplemental are ongoing and no decisions have been made.
After an evening meeting of top House Democrats, the party canceled a session at which they were to present the elements of a new war spending proposal to the rank and file in anticipation of a vote this week.

"There is no deal," said Representative David R. Obey, the Wisconsin Democrat who is the chairman of the Appropriations Committee and is one of the lead negotiators over the war money.

The leadership is working under a "self-imposed deadline" of this week to resolve the issue, one of those "artificial" timetables. While the Memorial Day recess would likely be more pleasant for them if this were behind them, meeting this deadline should be less of a priority than crafting a responsible, strong response to Bush.

At any rate, no plan has been settled on yet. Watch this space for more information as the day unfolds.

There's more in the comments. Was this whole thing a trial balloon?

1. All they have to do is show the American people that they have some balls.

NO DEAL, President Bush. Withdraw the troops. Take it or leave it. Period.

If they do that they will win in '08. If they don't and capitulate then they risk losing it all.

2. People on dK are saying that it was a preeptive alarm by the Prog Caucus.
The story this morning may have been meant to get us all screaming.

4. Indeed, Sir: Pressure Should Be Applied
It is time to hold firm, and force the issue on the enemy....

All summer - you bet! We're only just beginning to find more NEW anti-War supporters!

Some of us are talking about going to the party Conventions as spectators.

8. My Apologies, Ma'am
The quote, by the way, is from Gen. Grant, at Vicksburg I believe: it seemed particularly apt here.

Our majority in Congress should send to the White House only Bills on this subject the administration has proclaimed it will veto, but that contain elements most of the people whole-heartedly support. Sooner or later, the enemy must crack, and accept some conditions on the funding. After all, it is the administration that must have the funds, and the Congress has no particular need to supply them, at least not on any terms but its own....

"If you only hold on long enpough, the other fellow will give way."

If they think we don't care, THEY WON'T, EITHER!!!!!!!!!

You HAVE to push them.

If for no other reason, to COUNTERACT all the pushing being done against us from the Dark Side. And I'm sure that kind of pressure is considerable. WE are all we've got. So we have to make sure WE count.
