we currently live in a fascist dictatorship
I realize most of us know that, but recent events prove that conclusively.
The lack of spine by the dems to set a timetable, the refusal of the white house to produce DOJ documents, the arrogance and contempt any administration official treats congress...

we're screwn.

I about gagged when I heard the repeat of what Carter said! WHY did he reply at all? I was jumping up and down with glee the day before that FINALLY someone had told this president how bad he is!!!!

YES--what is IT that the WH holds over these people? (Maybe they lose their spot in the bunker when the big one comes!)

47. I really wish
that someone would address the issue of what kind of hold the WH has. I mean in a rational manner. I've seen nothing...read nothing...that makes sense as to why Dems won't stand up to these execrable criminals.

I can't think of anything except that either they or their families have been threatened. And even then, why can't someone blow the whistle on this?

15. The White House holds no pwer over them.
They share it. They are enablers.

The Political Game in this country is, for lack of a better word, a sham.

It will fall to We The People to do something.

And as I am afraid many of you have observed, We The People are either still caught up in the fantasy that we still have a functioning government, or are too addicted to their comfort, bobbles and trinkets to be bothered with boring concepts like Freedom, Liberty, and The Pursuit Of Happiness.

What's on American Idol?

9. Beg to differ
Hitler didn't clamp down on the opposition all at once. He started as Bush started, then escalated.

Currently, if you exercise your First Amendment rights, you are subject to arrest, to loss of job and/or harassment by fellow citizens.

Your right to habeas corpus has been rescinded, as had your right to trial by jury, right to face your accusers, your right to the presumption of innocence, and your 8th Amendment right against cruel and unusual punishment.

Your mail, email, and telephone calls may be intercepted without a warrant. Your house may be entered without a warrant to place wiretaps, your medical, financial, and business records may be examined without a warrant.

I'm sorry, but how is this NOT a police state?

27. On the Historical Reference, Mr. Mace
You are inaccurate. There was a certain logistical delay in arresting and torturing certain categories, but the police repression was embarked on from the outset, to the very limit of organizational ability to carry it out, and indeed, that this would occur had been loudly advertised, and even demonstrated by murder gangs, well in advance of taking power over the German state.

33. Uh, so unless
the police arrests all dissenters (which by my count would be several million at this point), we must live in a free society?

You don't believe that the loss of trial by jury, the presumption of innocence, the loss of habeas corpus, mass illegal wiretaps, openly trying to rig elections, and a complete disregard for the rule of law is evidence of a police state?

51. here's the deal -- why upset the populace unnecessarily IF you
can get everything you want, when you want it, while the people are placated and believe they are living in a democracy?

11. Not necessarily. It would only be a crime, if such statements
had any bearing on the Dictatorship. Besides in this particular Dictatorship, the citizens have free speech, because it doesn't make any difference what anyone says. Why should the Leader worry about what you or I might say? It is the person with some modicum of power that is precluded from speaking out or the person with some information or bit of evidence that can't be explained away (Sybil Edmonds). This is a modern Dictatorship, in an electronic, techno era. You can say whatever you want - it is of no consequence. If it should become of consequence, then you will be silenced.

You see, whoever controls America controls the only superpower. In the past, every Dictator had to worry about other counties that might try and intervene in its affairs. Other countries that might try and support insurgents or revolutionaries and thereby threaten the Dictatorship. Not so in our situation. Citizens can scream bloody murder and so what? Nothing, that's what. Who we gonna' call? Nobody...

That is the silliest goddamn thing I ever heard of.

No wonder Bush gets away with the shit he does. Even here people are completely out of touch with reality.

For my next prediction: Bush declares a national emergency in Oct '08 and cancels elections.

I am sure that even then people will tell me that we still live in a democracy.

look at Ron Paul. Our government and the corporate media went after him like a pack of pirahnas for quoting the 9/11 Commision Report.

That old 9/11 report is Newspeak v.2.3

The Republicans are on Newspeak v.5.5

Ron Paul does not have the current newspeak version, therefore he is in league with Emmanual Goldstein and Eurasia.
