.................Republicans said that after weeks of struggle, they had forced Democrats to give up their demand for a date to withdraw the troops.

"I'm optimistic that we will achieve the following: Republicans said that after weeks of struggle, they had forced Democrats to give up their demand for a date to withdraw the troops.

"I'm optimistic that we will achieve the following: a full four-month funding bill without surrender dates. I think there's a good chance of that," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (news, bio, voting record) of Kentucky.

Rep. John Boehner (news, bio, voting record) of Ohio, the House Republican leader, added, "Democrats have finally conceded defeat in their effort to include mandatory surrender dates in a funding bill for the troops, so forward progress has been made for the first time in this four-month process."I think there's a good chance of that," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (news, bio, voting record) of Kentucky.

2. surrender dates?
I see that the repigs are still more adept at framing the issue than the Democrats. They need to read Lakoff.

3. They are in the minority and they still win.
Tell me anything that the dems won while in the minority. This is so frustrating.

5. "mandatory surrender dates." "conceded defeat"
Gosh, wonder who wrote that script?

Just because democrats have the slim-est of majority doesn't mean they can override a veto. They can set the agenda which means now more than ever people will recognize who wants this war (repubs) and who doesn't.

You know, the ones who reported just before the 2006 election that Mark Foley was a "Democrat."

9. Quite a win for Republicans.
I mean, I hope they run on this "win".

"Hey America...we stopped those Democrats from getting us out of the quagmire...hurray! More soldiers will be killed, more soldiers injured, more Iraqi's killed and injured, we'll continue burning resources in Iraq which could be used at home, and we'll see more and more people come to hate us. Quite a win for us, right? Right?"
