Have too many posters here lost their marbles/ability to use their heads?
Edited on Tue May-22-07 07:07 PM by brentspeak
(pre-emptive apologies to all rational-minded DUers)

There's been almost no specifics on the alleged funding bill, no names, no confirmation, and no vote. In short, no information. But DU's got a hundred threads up at any minute a) blasting the Democrats for "caving in"; b) trying to convince people to vote 3rd party.

Where I come from, before attempting to form an opinion on things, people are taught to a) first, get all the necessary facts straight; and b) second, ignore all rumors and speculative comments.

Why is it so hard for some people not to jump to conclusions and to not jerk their knees into their mouths at the slightest hint of a rumor?

1. Because that's not any fun
Jumping to conclusions and making statements without all the facts is much more fun.

Plus, you will not be called to task on it if and when you find out you were wrong because you didn't wait to get all the facts.

2. What I've heard....I do not like. I heard both Pelosi's and Reid's
explanation. Enough said.

4. It seems that way
And because of the generally democratic nature of the boards here, it's easy for a lot of them to get away with it.

9. So I take it you are happy with what they did?
because the assumption you are making is that anyone who critisizes them may be a troll

I will vote Democratic because there is no choice, not because they have principle

11. Wait a minute. There's a world of difference between

someone who harshly criticizes the Dems in good faith, and someone else who types "From now on, we should consider voting for the Greens". (I'm not saying you're one of the latter, but they're all over the boards today.)

14. Agreed, I just logged on, and am not following all the threads
Sorry for the assumption

Voting for a third party would be a disaster.

6. They did cave in. Democrats to fund Iraq war with no pullout date
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070522/pl_nm/iraq_usa_funding_dc

You can make all the excuses you want for them, but in two years we will still be in Iraq, with how many more deaths

I will vote for them, but only because of the supreme court and civil liberties, and I am not sure they will do that much better since quite a few of them voted for the Patriot Act, and the IWR

8. "...but pledged to try again in July"
That's the key phrase doom-sayers apparently haven't seemed to notice.

12. Nothing will change. I will vote straight Democratic ticket in 08,
but that won't change the facts

Yes, the Senate is too close to over-ride any veto, but hell, no bench marks?

How will they evaluate if progress is being made?

13. I think what we, the constituents, should do, is call up our congress critters
and politely but firmly give them hell on this issue. They pledge to try again in a month-and-a-half, ok. In the interim, we can give them something to think about, and it's enough time for them to come up with effective strategies.

7. Agreed

Some times this place can be hard to figure. Might be that some are just "glass half empty" by nature. It looks like they are expecting the Dem Congress to undo in six months what it took the BushCo Regime six years to ruin.

10. You're right - why the fuck should I care?
I'm retired, I'm in a financial position where I can easily support myself and my wife for the rest of our lives and still leave something to our kids. I can afford $4 gasoline, and although I'm not wealthy, my income comes from real estate and investments, just like people who are wealthy.

So why should I give a shit? Because I care about this country, I grew up believing in the genius of our form of government with its inherent checks and balances, and I believe in the two party system. I'm also aware that in this media age perception not only can become reality, it IS reality. And I'm a veteran and I hate what bush and his puppet masters are doing to our country.

I know the action of the Dems today was predictable, but a lot of people are looking for some defiance, just to avoid the perception that the Dems are part of this problem, because believe me, that's exactly how it's gonna be portrayed - if they were really against the war, why did they give bush a blank check?
