Al Gore IS packing alot of weight. He is a candidate for heart attack and/or stroke.

I think he is aware of it, but should he run for the presidency, it would certainly concern me. I would want a president to start his eight years of service in good health.

The turmoil that a deceased president-in-office can cause is an important issue, IMO.

27. Exactly. Fitness should be a top criteria? There goes FDR, I guess.
Lincoln may have had Marfan's Syndrome, and clinical depression. JFK had Addison's Disease. George W. Bush is fit - yep, enjoy.

Ludicrous.

Sure, he carries around a few extra LBs, but you'd think the man was HUGE! He's probably not much over the "average" weight of an American man of his height. Give the guy a break already!

The mindless being the RW hacks and corporate media. Issues are what are important.

32. My thoughts exactly. In this age of TV glamour pusses, substance....
has taken a backseat to appearance.

But I think Gore still looks good, and I don't care what ANY of the candidates weigh, unless there's some indication that they're sick or something like that, which would interfere with their job duties.

The Republicans make much of the fact that they don't like the way Hillary Clinton looks....from her hair to her supposed fat ankles. You can bet that they'd be all over Gore...if not for weight, for some other reason.

Obama is a bit difficult for them, since he's a minority. They have to tread carefully. It would have to be inferred...like that ad against Harold Ford.

39. The republicans have made fun of the way every Democrat looked
We are selecting models - Gore is a very good person, intelligent and knowledgable. I feel really sorry for anyone who cares what the President looks like.

I would have happily voted for John Kerry last time or Gore the time before even if they were about 5 foot 3, 200 pounds and bald.

42. Height is a bit different. Very few Presidents were short, or the shorter candidate.
Height adds to one's authoritativeness (or the appearance of it). So height is a bit different from other physical aspects.

You can still be good looking and not tall.

(most of whom are packing a whole hell of alot more weight than Al) I am sure it will be. In our shallow society, anything like concentration on the issues, intellect, and quality of the man are likely to be quite confused and overwhelmed.

17. You're concerned about his health?
Here's a partial health report for another politican:

1978 : Dick Cheney suffers his first heart attack. The incident does not sideline Cheney, as the former White House chief of staff wins the first of five terms to Congress that same year.

~snip

1988 : An attack in August -- Cheney's third before his 48th birthday -- leads to quadruple bypass surgery. But the congressman's condition stabilizes throughout the 1990s, with no official reports of health problems. He has his last comprehensive heart check-up in 1996, not to have another one for four years.

~snip

March 5, 2001 : Cheney checks himself into George Washington University Hospital with chest pain and discomfort. The vice president undergoes an "urgent" procedure to re-open the blocked heart artery treated in November, returning home after an overnight stay. With advisers saying his heart has not been damaged, Cheney soon resumes his busy schedule. (Read more on Cheney's March hospitalization)

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/HEALTH/06/29/cheney.chronology/index.html

And Cheney's girth certainly didn't enter into the 2000 race.

Looks like he's lost weight since the Oscars. What really stands out to me though is how refreshing it is to listen to an intelligent and knowledgeable man as compared to the idiotic blabbering that pours out of the mouth of dubya daily.

21. The only people who care aren't voting Democratic anyways.
And they are image oriented, and will pick at anything they can since they can't win on integrity.

All we can do is be ourselves. Be honest.

It doesn't matter. And if it does, we're in way bigger trouble than Gore's extra pounds.

24. I don't think it would be a real problem for him if he ran -
America could accept a tall, well-built man like Al Gore with a little weight around the middle. He's not Richardson, with the Great Jowls of Automatic Second-Tierness.

The REAL point about Al's weight, as others have already said, is that if he WAS about to run, he'd lose his "spare tire" fast because he could and he's smart enough and serious enough that if he runs he'll do everything he can to win. Unlike some people who shall remain nameless who go out in the off-season and marry random Brits with tongue studs.

35. I am the OM person
Al Gore is considerably overweight since he was vice president, just in the past couple of years.

Of course I think he is a great guy! I want him for president, but I don't think he will run. Who wants the mess that Bush is leaving?

I still believe in this day and age that anyone who is going to run the country owes it to the citizens to be in the best possible health, at least as far as can be told.

I voted for JFK and I remember well the insecurities we faced in this country with the change in president and administration.

I hope Al Gore stays out of government and continues to bring more insight into one of the greatest problems on earth, and that is the assault on Earth by relatively small fry in Earth's history..humans.

36. Seems to me Dick Cheney is carrying a load with his heart condition and NEWT
seems to conceal his bulk under carefully tailored suits. Then there's Richardson who says he's always dieting and Denny Hastert was a REAL PORKER.

Gore will do what he has to ...but as he said: "Millions of Americans are dealing with this." It makes him a sympathetic figure given the times we live in.

He's been on the road a lot and probably eats hotel food at odd hours. He needs to hire a nutritionist or join Weightwatchers. I want Al to be an old man who sees some changes being made in the global climate crisis.
