Pelosi: ‘I’m Not Likely To Vote For Something That Doesn’t Have A Timetable’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) confirmed at a press conference late this afternoon that she does not intend to vote for the Iraq deal reached today by the White House and Congress. “I’m not likely to vote for something that doesn’t have a timetable or a goal,” she said, while still praising the deal as “a recognition by the administration that a new direction was called for by the American people.”

Later, House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-WI) insisted that “we intend to continue that fight” for an Iraq timeline “on every vehicle available to us,” adding that the “first two vehicles that we expect to join the issue on are the defense appropriations bill in July and the defense supplemental appropriations bill in September.”

Also during the press conference, Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) called the deal “the beginning of the end of the president’s policy in Iraq,” citing the 18 benchmarks and two required ‘progress reports’ laid out in the legislation. Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), the House Majority Whip, pointed out that the bill will allow for passage of the first minimum wage increase in a decade, and for more than $6 billion to be delivered to victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.

6. They have their Activists...
but they might seem inclined to throw us under the bus like they will Howard Dean once Terry MacAuliff gets his claws into him when he's finished with annointing the Clinton Dynasty.

sorry...I'm just really down tonight and very snarky...

3. Keep close tabs on this vote folks. Then we'll know who's with us and
who's with them (corporate American and the criminal cabal in the White House).

4. "Not likely" is not "won't".
Think Progress is reading a bit too much into her words. But it *might* mean that it's not a done deal for Bush yet.

Bottom line: Words don't matter, votes do.

5. Let's not forget who controls the MSM,
before everyone instinctively bolts for the exit because "the Dems caved". I want to see what's actually in the bill before I decide what the next step should be.

7. I think that the corporate media is feeding us some bullshit.......
about what our congress is actually doing, and I think that we are swallowing it whole.

I don't know what Pelosi and 'nem are actually doing, but I know that the media is working hard at making it look like a Bush Victory.....and I think that they are doing a fine job of it, although I'm not sure if this is really so! I'm not easily fooled, and so, I'm not gonna jump to conclusions. I have a pretty large dose of distrust as to what the media reports. Hell, when the Saddam statue was falling, I was saying....this shit is soooo fake, its gonna come back to bite them in the ass! and sure nough! :hi:

9. There's been a deal
And Pelosi's job included negotiating it: I figure she's gone for the best she thinks she can hold her caucus to. She obviously doesn't like it.

It'll be interesting to see which Democrats oppose any timetable amendments: they're the problem.
