I had hoped that after Gore Slayed Diane Sawyer he'd come out Swinging on Larry King Tonight!
Edited on Tue May-22-07 09:32 PM by KoKo01

I was disappointed that he seemed to allow Larry King to focus on the Horse Race and lead him into a "dialog" about which Dem Candidate he had an opinion about. The first half of the interview was couched in "politics" and pressed by King. Gore seemed to be willing to "play the game" with King to get his points across.

There were questions about Hillary, Obama and Edwards. Of all of them Gore seemed to "brighten" in his response about Edwards.

Larry led him down the path of "Would you have supported Iraq Invasion." Gore gave a very credible answer to us Anti-Iraq Invasion Activists...but did "temper" his response about how many troops should be there and seemed to say we couldn't leave unless it was an "honorable" withdrawal" (That's when I knew that Gore used Larry King appearance to make his decision about running)...and he was being SO CAREFUL not to ATTACK...except with some glimmers about the issues that are consistent with who he has always been. His energy seemed to ebb and flow with the questions...but that he "PLAYED THE GAME" with King convinced me he's down to the wire about deciding whether to "come in."

Larry King seemed to be trying to both HYPE GORE with the positive images in the "photo montage" of Gore's carreer before the commercial breaks. At the end he even announced a CNN Poll showing Gore having OVERWHELMING SUPPORT if he would RUN.

It wasn't the NEW GORE's Best Performance tonight...but I thought it was "solid and cautious" for a RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY!

I wish he had ATTACKED MORE...but leave it up to his judgement in dealing with "Larry King...the Gatekeeper Entertainment WIZARD." One has to be careful with Larry. That Gore was careful says to me that tonight's appearance was Gore's serious "Go FOR BROKE" announcement that he's SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT COMING IN.

The Clincher was when "a person on the street" shouted out whether Gore would consider having a Cabinet Postiion in a New Administration and Gore said "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" That GLEAM IN HIS EYE was I WANT TO BE PRESIDENT and SECOND BEST is some "position" in another administration.

Just My Thoughts....and I am a Gore Supporter.

ON EDIT: I wondered if Gore was as disappointed as so many of us here on DU are Tonight over Harry Reid and our Senate's view of Iraq Timetables, and so many letters and now subpoena's that are just ignored by these criminals. It must be disheartening for him to be seeing this. He might have been reflecting the mood of the Activist Dems on the Internet about how betrayed some of us feel by our party tonight.

1. Gore can say that about the was now because he was adamantly
against it when it counted...

He is a realist who knows the chaos that would ensue if we pull out just like that...

2. He said he can't be 'objective' when speaking about bush
That really threw because it would seem to take the air out of a lot the criticisms he levels against bush in his book. I think Gore's criticisms are valid, objective, and reasonable. Wish he hadn't said that.

He may not have spoken harshly because he doesn't want to appear too partisan or make enemies of some of the people he needs persuade on climate issues. On the other hand he may be keeping his options open for another WH run.

3. He has said it before - it seems to be his go-to response for questions
about if Bush is the worst President ever and stuff like that.

4. Based on what I saw
Gore is still considering a run, thus his responses. He has to balance his answers between being thoughtful and intelligent, for the left...and being vengeful and subjective and open for attack on the right.

I thought he was wonderful, and I nearly prostrated myself on the floor a couple of times during the interview...

I just hope he gets to the place where he can overcome the ugly political process to get to where he needs to be.

5. yeah...on balance it was positive and if you saw the Sawyer Slaying
then it was a double...in that he's thinking he's got to come in earlier than he thought because they are moving those primaries further back. Isn't one now just after Christmas?

6. I also don't think you go into an interview with Larry King expecting a hard core
journalistic interview. He is a soft interviewer.

7. And I'm in one those states
Our primary was in late March, now it has been moved up Feb. 5, 2008.

As a result, I'm "itchy"!
