Here is my letter written to the DNC today. I'm done.....
am a 50 year old who has been a registered Democrat since the age of 18. I am sorry to say that today is the day that I have decided to disaffiliate myself from the party. I also vow to never give one dime to the Democrats again. Why? It's very simple. The spineless cave-in the Democrats pulled yesterday in giving George Bush exactly what he wanted so he can continue to kill American men and women in his illegal occupation of Iraq. 70% of this country is against this war much less the percentage of those calling themselves Democrats. What does it take for elected officials to stand up to these war criminals? I am going to turn my attentions and resources to working to establish a truly progressive and viable third party in this country. While that reality is probably never going to happen in my lifetime.there comes a time where throwing good money & effort after bad is pointless. Your party is pathetic and deserves to lose if for no other reason than you have no principles or backbone. This country is falling off a cliff and it's probably too late already to save it. I hope that I'm wrong, but I doubt it. The following from "The Progressive Daily Beacon" sums it up nicely.

Democrats: Not Just Cowards...But Stupid, Too

A. Alexander, May 23rd, 2007

Not only are Democrats cowards, but they're not very smart cowards to boot. Recently every poll, including the Republican-leaning and always Bush-friendly Rasmussen poll, showed the president's approval rating tumbling...again.

Mister Bush's new decline could be attributed to two issues: the Iraq War and immigration. Conservatives were not at all happy with Bush's immigration stance and finally, after six long years, had started abandoning him. Newsweek's poll pegged Bush at 28 percent and Rasmussen at 33 percent...and Rasmussen's Bush rating has historically been at least seven points higher than any other national poll. Do the math - that means Mister Bush was likely sitting around 26 percent approval --- and falling.

It is in the midst of this latest decline that Congressional Democrats decided to cave on the Iraq War-funding bill. Just as Bush was about to impeach himself, Democrats handed him his biggest political victory in more than two years.

Do-de-doo-doo --- do-de-doo --- do-de-doo-do-do-do.... Let's play Political Jeopardy!

CONTESTANT: Alex, I'll take Titanic-like Moments in History for $1000, please.

HOST, ALEX TREBEK: This date: May 21, 2007 signified an important date in American political history.

CONTESTANT: What is, 'the day the Democratic Party destroyed itself'!

HOST, ALEX TREBEK: That is correct! Do you remember what happened on that fateful day?

CONTESTANT: Yes, indeedly-do I do, Alex. That was the day Congressional Democrats caved into Mister Bush and gave him EVERYTHING he demanded in the Iraq War-funding bill. And, at the VERY moment that the cowardly Democrats made that egregious mistake, they sealed their fate and lost the 2008 election and were never heard from ever again.

HOST, ALEX TREBEK: You are right again! Thanks, for playing Political Jeopardy and tune in next time!

Do-de-doo-doo --- do-de-doo --- do-de-doo-do-do-do....

Indeed, not only are Democrats cowards, but they're not very smart cowards to boot. It appears this time, however, the Democrats knew just enough about nothing to cause their own political extinction.

1. Good letter but it's a tad extreme don't you think?
They have only been in power for four months and with a razor thin majority, there working with what they have here not miracle workers

But seriously good letter, lots of heart and conviction.

3. Ok, why undermine Dean and the DNC?
He has been told to not to talk out about policy, to take his cues from Reid and Pelosi. He's already been threatened by Carville and Schoen and associates with being replaced by Harold Ford.

Why don't you take it out on the other Democratic groups...the DCCC the DSCC.. and the elected Democrats.

Oh, well, go ahead and bite the hand that is trying to help.

5. I ,too, think the DCdems may have jumped the shark with this one
The political advisors inside the Beltway love explaining things as "oh, that was just a trial balloon." The legislation isn't even written yet. There has been no vote.

Yeah, right. We are supposed to believe that this is just an exercise to guage the way the wind is blowing.

Well, IMHO they've got it badly wrong this time. They made manifest just how out of touch the Beltway Boys and Girls are from the people who elected them. I'm not sure there is even a chance to fix this. It will likely break the Antiwar Progressive Left from the Moderight Democratic Hawks. Unfortunately this is could cause just enough votes to go GREEN in '08 to insure a GOP sweep of the Whitehouse and both houses of Congress.

I really wouldn't give a crap if that meant that the Dems would eat more Elephant shit for 8 years, but it actually means that the Republic will have been lost. Forever. THAT really bothers me.

7. Moving the piggy bank.....
What you are doing is undermining the bunch that is trying to give power back to us, so when we want to make points to Congress we have more strength.

8. I never said that I wasn't going to vote Democratic.....
I'm just not going to financially support or encourage bad behavior any more. The simple and correct course of action was just as John Edwards said: Send the original bill back and let him veto it again. Keep doing it until they have to start cutting back and begin bringing people home. That is how you END this war with a slim majority. There isn't a single Democrat who would have been t risk using this strategy. 70% of Americans hate Chucklenuts and want this war OVER! What do these cowards need to get these facts through their thick skulls? As for Dean, if he's so principled, how come he doesn't tell Pelosi & Reid to go fuck themselves and tell it like it is? Having said that I plan to send a copy to the DLC and other Dem groups too. Bottom line: I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.

10. I think your anger is misdirected at the DNC.
You even question whether he is principled. Well, until there is time to build more of a support base....his job is on the line. Guess who is next? Harold Ford.

So take your pick.

9. perhaps it's time for this ---

Instead of waiting for the parties or candidates to supply solutions, perhaps it is time for the people to generate a solution and then ask who will

The establishment of the U.S. Life Corps is the central idea that is presented by Dylan Ford on his website:

http://www.ideaforpresident.com/

In this time of war I frequently hear our officials saying that the resources of Iraq belong to the Iraqi people. It stands to reason, then, that the resources of the U.S. belong to the American people.
This is a first step toward Americans rolling up our sleeves and taking back our country and our environment, our atmosphere and our food and our health from the corporate structure that has gradually co-opted and undermined it all, for money.
It is a start for people from all parties and philosophies to temporarily set aside our less immediate differences in order to make our work security, our food security, our water security, our health security, our environmental security, our atmospheric security, and our families’ security our top priorities right now.

And any politician who won’t sign on to help us do this must be sent packing.

And the corporations must be put on notice that they can no longer bribe our politicians to betray us.

Corporate use of American resources will once again be at the discretion of We, The People.

11. Working for Us PAC...
check it out:

http://workingforuspac.org/content/home/

I agree with your sentiments, but I believe that we must target the DLCers and the Blue Dogs, weed them out and make every effort to take back our party. The fundies and the neocons made a concerted effort to take over the Republi-con party, and they were successful... we can do the same.

<snip> Democrats who vote against the interests of their constituents better find another day job <end>
