John Edwards Stakes Claim on Pirate Booty
Source: TheStreet.com

The question of the day: Just how much of the $500 million sunken treasure found in the Atlantic last weekend belongs to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards?

I put a call in to Edwards' campaign yesterday morning to find out, but I haven't heard back yet.

The reality? The populist one-term senator will get an undisclosed piece of the action from the sunken 17th-century galleon.

The ship, laden with gold and silver, was found at the bottom of the Atlantic by a little-known exploration company, Florida-based Odyssey Marine Research (OMR - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating).

IMHO a big so what - at least John Edwards knows how to make money and invest unlike Shrub who had to have his daddy and his rich Saudi friends bail him out at every turn!

1. Dems can't make money now?
If it was a pug he would be hailed as a brilliant investor.

If it was me I'd buy the best damn bottle of bourbon ever.

2. Makes me like him more
He invested in searching for buried treasure? Isn't that most of ours hidden dream that we could discover hidden treasure? Makes him seem normal except that it worked.

3. I agree! Apparently someone doesn't want Edwards running - gee
he has money, he spends the money as he wants, and he wants to help those less fortunate. Hummmmm!

4. Cool! Maybe after he's president, he can find some more for the Treasury.
For once, we can have a president who finds money, rather than loses it.

5. Good for him.He deserves a break. Money can't buy happiness but at least
he has a cute story to tell Elizabeth and the kids. I will also bet he does more to help the people of this nation with that money than any other investor would have thought of doing.Hooray for John Edwards!

6. A successful business man...compare and contrast that to the dismal
failure currently squatting in the White House.
Edwards is smart and cool...pirate treasure!

7. Arrrrrrr matey!
So funny, when I heard of this story I laughed and thought to myself "Good for Odyssey Marine Research, whoever they are!"

I would certainly invest in such a venture if I could have.

I wonder if Jack Sparrow was in on it too? ;-)

8. No! We can't have a smart investor be president!
We need a guy who despite having a Havard M.B.A. has managed to run every enterprise he's ever touched straight into the ground.

10. Reminds me of FDR.

Except none of FDR's investments panned out.

After he got polio and before he returned to politics, FDR invested in all sorts of crazy schemes. He also tried to write a movie script.

Jonathan Alter writes about this in his recent book about FDR.
