Statistics re: Bush V. Gore
I received an email from a winger today stating what I think is absolutely the opposite of what is true.

Professor Jose ph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St.Paul,
Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000
Presidential election

Number of States won by
Gore: 19
Bush: 29

Square miles of land won by
Gore: 580,000
Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by
Gore: 127 million
Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by
Gore: 13.2
Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won
was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country
Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in
Government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government
welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of
Democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already
having reached the "governmental dependency"phase.

It seems to me that we've seen stats that refute this. Does anyone know where I can find them?

And he won the majority of the vote across the U.S.A.

4. Talk about cooking the data lol
I don't have time to march out stats today -- if no one else does, I will tomorrow, but trust me, that's bovine excrement.

5. Snopes is your friend.

Most interesting is that Olson denies authorship.

6. Why post such wankspeak?
It is so utterly trivial and useless that it literally means nothing at all. anyone who would send it is dumber than a fucking rock.

7. urban myth--see snopes, and see Prof. Olson's web site
from the web site of Joseph Olson, Professor of Law at HAMLINE University (not "Hemline"--figures a dumb@$$ freeper wouldn't get all the details right) (emphasis mine):

DISCLAIMER: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I've been trying to kill it for 3 years. For details see: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp.

http://www.hamline.edu/law/professors/joseph_olson.html

At snopes, the stats are discussed--some are bogus, some are accurate but distorted.

10. Bush won the rural counties....traditional GOP country...duh
no argument... NOT where most of the American people live but...yeah..thousands and thousands of square miles of cropland, rangeland, and empty sagebrush.

Democratic government is of the People, not of the landed aristocracy (Herr Professor's "land-ownin', tax-payin' Americuns").

I believe we fought both a Revolution and a Civil War over ideas like this. Apparently Herr Professor is an anti-democratic feudalist.

11. average number of people per acre in Bush "acres"
usually runs about the same comparison as the IQ of the average Bush true believer (below 100) ... Bush did well in the sparsely populated "big" (sq. mileage) states ... where you often have to get in a vehicle to go see your nearest neighbor ...
