Aloha,

Anybody else out there see this kind of blatant politics in the megachurches on the mainland? Any ideas about how to tackle this?
The big churches are giant powerhouses now, turning large segments of the map that were blue forever, red. It is so tragic!
Here's the website for New Hope church. Just horrors!

http://www.enewhope.org/
Please email them politely if you feel so moved, mahalo.... ohana@enewhope.org

2. In case you do, there is a protest across the street from the Convention Center planned.
Friday, 5:30 or 6.

So saddened that the church is going this route.

They used to hand out voter guides that only had republicans on it. We have so few republicans, they didn't make a dent in the local elections, but they made abig and very negative difference in the national election. By manipulating the way people think about these matters, they guide the people.

How can they be so political? Is that legal?

11. a church can not endorse,raise funds,or have a candidate
ask for funds on church property. politicians can be invited to speak about spiritual matters but they can not ask for funds or votes. other than that a church can do and invite anyone it wants to.
welcome to the inexact science of politics...

18. There's no law against churches sponsoring Speeches by Scumbags.
But the Jamboree described in the OP is truly nausea-inducing.

10. I believe that the law reads -
- that churches cannot promote one candidate over another during an election. A rally of non-candidates promotes social agenda and opinion, something that churches do every day. And - YES - both parties partake in the same type events at churches. Go to Google Images and search on KERRY CHURCH and you will see pics of Kerry campaigning in churches before the last election.

I'd say attend the protest OR find a church willing to promote a liberal rally. What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

15. I miss the Saturnalia.

Little know historical fact: one of Constatine's successors attempted a pagan revival. After decades of Christianity, the return of animal sacrifice disgusted most citizens of the empire. But they tolerated the pagans for a few months not wanting to repeat the evils heaped upon them when their own religion was not tolerated.

But then the first Saturnalia rolled around with gangs roaming the streets seeking out unprotected women to rape in the name of Saturn. The people rose up against these gangs, against other pagans and, eventually, against the Emperor.

Unless they are waiting to join the grabbing?

What happened to separation of church and state? WTF?
