Cianci snags job at luxurious Boston hotel
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci will work in sales and marketing at a luxurious Boston hotel when he gets out of federal prison on corruption charges, The Associated Press has learned.
Cianci will start working May 30 for Fifteen Beacon, a boutique hotel in the shadow of the Massachusetts Statehouse, George Regan, a spokesman for hotel owner Paul Roif, told the AP Tuesday.
Cianci will live in a halfway house in Boston until his term in federal custody ends in July. Regan said Cianci expects to continue working at Fifteen Beacon after his release.
"He's going to have an office right inside the hotel. He's obviously an expert in sales and marketing. Look what he's done for downtown Providence," Regan said. "We think he'll be a great addition."
Cianci was sent to federal prison in 2002 following his conviction on a single count of racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors said he oversaw widespread corruption during his time in city hall, but supporters of the colorful former mayor credit him with revitalizing downtown Providence and making it a center of arts and culture.
