3. That ain't the half of old Vin's secrets and sins...
Bilking the Elderly, With a Corporate Assist
by Charles Duhigg
The thieves operated from small offices in Toronto and hangar-size rooms in India. Every night, working from lists of names and phone numbers, they called World War II veterans, retired schoolteachers and thousands of other elderly Americans and posed as government and insurance workers updating their files.
Then, the criminals emptied their victims’ bank accounts.

Richard Guthrie, a 92-year-old Army veteran, was one of those victims. He ended up on scam artists’ lists because his name, like millions of others, was sold by large companies to telemarketing criminals, who then turned to major banks to steal his life’s savings.

Mr. Guthrie, who lives in Iowa, had entered a few sweepstakes that caused his name to appear in a database advertised by infoUSA, one of the largest compilers of consumer information. InfoUSA sold his name, and data on scores of other elderly Americans, to known lawbreakers, regulators say.

InfoUSA advertised lists of “Elderly Opportunity Seekers,” 3.3 million older people “looking for ways to make money,” and “Suffering Seniors,” 4.7 million people with cancer or Alzheimer’s disease. “Oldies but Goodies” contained 500,000 gamblers over 55 years old, for 8.5 cents apiece. One list said: “These people are gullible. They want to believe that their luck can change.”

<snip>

Many of the victims are people like Mr. Guthrie, whose name was among the millions that infoUSA sold to companies under investigation for fraud, according to regulators. Scam artists stole more than $100,000 from Mr. Guthrie, his family says. How they took much of it is unclear, because Mr. Guthrie’s memory is faulty and many financial records are incomplete.

<snip>

Senior executives at infoUSA were contacted by telephone and e-mail messages at least 30 times. They did not respond.

2. but I thought the corporate owned
Media had already anointed Hillary as the Candidate and our Next President! Oh well, there goes THAT theory.

Now, when they tie this CEO to legislation Hillary sponsored and ram-rodded through the Senate that benefited him and his company, then we have a problem. From a cursory reading, though (the NYTimes is running this as well), it appears she actually sponsored legislation that DIDN'T benefit him as well as reimbursing for the travel per the current Rules, so ...

Again, if the Corporate Media has already Anointed her, why are they doing this? I'm so confused.

4. This story is in the NYT, The WP and MSNBC so far
"In addition to the shareholder accusations, The New York Times reported last Sunday that an investigation by the authorities in Iowa found that infoUSA sold consumer data several years ago to telemarketing criminals who used it to steal money from elderly Americans. It advertised call lists with titles like “Elderly Opportunity Seekers” or “Suffering Seniors,” a compilation of people with cancer or Alzheimer’s disease. The company called the episodes an aberration and pledged that it would not happen again."

That snippet is fromt the NYT. Nice company for Bill to be associated with and Hillary to benefit from their generous flying perks for her campaign.

To me personally, the interesting part is that this comes out as the result of a shareholder lawsuit that questions why this guy is paying Bill big bucks for consulting and flying Bill and Hillary around to the tune of almost a million dollars worth of air travel. The shareholders want to know where's the value for them? and I agree with them. Small line about Bill also nominated this CEO for 2 ambassadorships which he turned down.

This is the same corporatist mutual back scratching that I object to when Republicans do it and I object just as much when its Dems.

I can't imagine why now of all times this so called person sued because Bill Clinton - and of by the way - Hillary, benefited by the use of corporate airplanes. GIVE ME A BREAK.....These assholes are doing everything they can to swiftboat Hillary. I suppose they are taking turns, HIllary, Obama, Edwards and over and over. I blame the democrats, I think it is about damn time they started slaming the republicans and big time. I don't know why they havent' launched a campaign against the irresponsible, lying, dirty tricks and sewer mind to the WILTED TURD BLOSSOM....rove the craphead.

13. Clinton team wouldn't take on Rove for 7yrs to help out the Dem party's 2002 and 2004
candidates or the 2004 nominee, even though they have been spreading the claim within the party that ONLY Clintons know how to fight them - uh huh - then why DIDN'T they?

There was alot to counter since Bush took office in Jan 2001 and alot of attacks on the Democratic party, the constitution and the Courts. But Clinton Team was keeping their powder dry throughout this time for when they needed it in 2007....to start using against primary challengers for 2008?

11. A Clinton contributor makes a living selling mailing lists - and this is a scandal? - the NYT needs
to get a clue.

One does not police ones customers.

If they were crooks before the sale, and he new about them being crooks, there is a problem - for him - not for Hillary.

But the crap thrown on the wall will not stick because they can't even allege that he knew he was dealing with crooks, he has employees that do sales and has in place the usual Sarbanes Oxley required oversight making violations of corporate policy easy to check out - and there is again no assertion of prior knowledge of dealing with crooks -

and just where is the Hillary connection?

Good Grief - this like the Chi Trib articles about Obama dealing with the crook next door and buying land at possibly a below market price (Obama paid a pro-rata of what the crook paid for the whole lot - but that is not necessary the market price for the piece he got).

This only makes Hillary haters wet - and will have no effect on anything other than some folks opinion of the NYT and NBC.

12. She took advantage of the private jet loophole while hubby gorged on Gupta Bucks
You see, Hillarians, this is the kind of tiresome crap I and many others are looking to take a pass on this time around. They're operating within the laws that are written by powerful people to excuse their own questionable behavior; jet travel for a fraction of the price, with (one could easily charge)an implied nudge-nudge, wink-wink for favors down the road. You can scream all you want that no laws are being broken here, but it's a sleaze-fest. Go ahead and tell yourselves it will be fun to defend these folks for another four or eight years after many of us went to the wall for them in the 90's; I think you're nuts.

Obama, by the way, pays full boat for whatever private jet travel he takes.
