Pelosi going on the global warming tour brings up what happened in Tx.

Description:

Flash flooding claimed at least five lives in central Texas overnight Thursday. Officials say three people died in Killeen and another two were killed in Copperas Cove after storms dropped more than 8 inches of rain in one night. The National Weather Service said more rain was expected Friday. Flash flood warnings and watches were posted for much of the area. Heavy rains were also impacting Kansas, where hundreds of families remain evacuated due to high water. The Saline County towns of Hedville, Bavaria and New Cambria were coping with high water as storm after storm dumped rain on the region since Wednesday afternoon. "The water has gone down in Hedville, however most people are out of their homes," said Dean Speaks, deputy emergency management director for Saline County. "Bavaria you still can't get into, the water's over the highway. And the only way into New Cambria is by boat or helicopter." It was the second round of flooding to hit the region this month. The flooding caused millions of dollars in damages, Speaks estimated . Many roads remain washed out, homes were being repaired and some places that were able to clean up are again facing almost one foot of water inside. "It's worse this time, too," Speaks said. "It's about a foot more than three weeks ago." He said the storms are the most powerful he and his fellow emergency managers have seen. Hedville and Bavaria have never before had to evacuate due to high water, he said.

He expressed frustration with residents who refused to evacuate despite being warned about possible flooding days earlier. Speaks said the county had to do swift water rescues overnight. "Our rescuers are doing their job and always will do that, but it's frustrating how people have gotten to relying on the government to save them," he said. "People are putting their lives at risk getting these families out." Towns affected again by the latest round of flooding also include Smolan and Mentor. Some areas received 5 to 7 inches of rain overnight Wednesday and into Thursday. More rain was forecast for the weekend. "I've seen a lot of floods, but I've never seen them back to back," Speaks said. "We'll pull together and get through this one." Flood watches and warnings remain posted for counties across eastern Kansas and into Iowa and Missouri.
