Dick Durbin wasn't very helpful with his "supporting the troops" remark.
He sounded like a repuke yesterday when he said he couldn't vote to withhold funds from the troops. He knows better-- there was no chance of the troops needs going neglected.

2. Perhaps if they had put some energy ANY ENERGY into framing the Iraq War as illegal crimes
against peace and humanity, sometime during the past 4 going on 5 years that the war has rolled on in endless slaughter, the Democrats wouldn't find themselves now mindlessly, pathetically repeating Rovian catchphrases and talkingpoints. And they might not be trapped, as they still seem to be, in proceeding from Rovian premises to Rovian conclusions, and bankrolling the continuation of the war and giving their all as Bushler's junior partners in mass murder.

3. Durbin has been a great senator
here in Illinois but his approval ratings, despite being consistently against this war, leave something to be desired. I suppose this was some sort of political calculation based on the reality that the public still has perception problems with the "cutting off funding" approach to ending the war.

4. He could've at least turned down rhetoric.
It wasn't very helpful to the Democratic senators running for president who voted NO on the bill.

5. Ending the illegal OCCUPATION is the way to frame this debacle
Calling it a war plays into Dim Son's hand.

6. He actually used the horrible Rep talking points!
I was really disappointed in Durbin ~ another Dem worried about looking good for Memorial Day headlines.

For once I'm not attending our small-town Memorial Day parade ~ I wouldn't be able to pretend that our newest losses haven't been a completely unnecessary waste of human life. Nope, no flag-waving for me this year.
