I had just turned the laptop on that I faced the titles from AFP saying "Bush celebrates victory after signing Iraq war bill". The article - probably already known on DU - is
here.
AFP posts two pics of Mr Bush and Mr Cheney (the latter with his right hand over his heart O8) ) and summarizes the actual results of the Iraq business,
"3,445 US servicemen dead since the March 2003 start of the war" and the simple matter of fact that with "no end in sight, the four-year-old war continues to encumber his (Bush's) administration."
Two days ago
Mr D'Alema, Italy's Minister, said he was not going to accept any indirect message from Bush and his Administration aimed to increasing engagement in Afghanistan. I answer the Italian Parliament, said D'Alema. It is the second time USA tries to put Italy under pressure: with Bush for months so weak our opposition parties were reduced to silence.
But Bush appears stronger even on the Afghan mission now. And the rightists revive.
In the meantime, a couple of hours ago, 5 children died in a mine explosion, two were injured, I can imagine how badly, in Afghanistan.I tried to change subject. I faced this one:
"US 'opposes' G8 climate proposals", source BBC. The article is at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6694227.stmThere's even a leaked document possessed by
Greenpeace, whose weblog meaningfully titles
"US harpoons G8 climate language in leaked document". You find it here at
http://weblog.greenpeace.org/makingwaves/archives/2007/05/us_harpoons_g8_climate_languag.htmlWhat should I do? I wrote this to you DUers, maybe to look for some comfort.
Then I turned my laptop off.
I couldn't face anything more about Bush.
