Bush on Iraq, Bush on Afghanistan. Bush even on G8 climate proposals...
Edited on Sat May-26-07 02:59 PM by demoleft
I had just turned the laptop on that I faced the titles from AFP saying "Bush celebrates victory after signing Iraq war bill". The article - probably already known on DU - is here.

AFP posts two pics of Mr Bush and Mr Cheney (the latter with his right hand over his heart O8) ) and summarizes the actual results of the Iraq business, "3,445 US servicemen dead since the March 2003 start of the war" and the simple matter of fact that with "no end in sight, the four-year-old war continues to encumber his (Bush's) administration."

Two days ago Mr D'Alema, Italy's Minister, said he was not going to accept any indirect message from Bush and his Administration aimed to increasing engagement in Afghanistan. I answer the Italian Parliament, said D'Alema. It is the second time USA tries to put Italy under pressure: with Bush for months so weak our opposition parties were reduced to silence.
But Bush appears stronger even on the Afghan mission now. And the rightists revive.
In the meantime, a couple of hours ago, 5 children died in a mine explosion, two were injured, I can imagine how badly, in Afghanistan.

I tried to change subject. I faced this one: "US 'opposes' G8 climate proposals", source BBC. The article is at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6694227.stm

There's even a leaked document possessed by Greenpeace, whose weblog meaningfully titles "US harpoons G8 climate language in leaked document". You find it here at http://weblog.greenpeace.org/makingwaves/archives/2007/05/us_harpoons_g8_climate_languag.html

What should I do? I wrote this to you DUers, maybe to look for some comfort.
Then I turned my laptop off.

I couldn't face anything more about Bush.

1. The word from the DC Kremlin is NYET!!
DUers from the coldest part of the Cold War in the 50's should vividly remember when everything reported from the government of the USSR seemed to be that single word. The word came to represent the full range of fears associated with nuclear war and an enormously powerful enemy of unremitting, implacable hostility. I don't remember anybody believing they were as insane as the * cabal is. Evil, perhaps, but not crazy.

2. Demoleft, your anger toward Bush is shared. Here is a cartoon...
from my friend in Belgium. He gets so angry with Bush that he can not write me for weeks at a time...he lets it carry over to me.

I wrote about it here.

Here is the cartoon. He was so angry that day he sent it.

These are our Democrats coming in to take over.

On vient faire le ménage : “We are coming for housekeeping “ (I believe those are Hillary and Obama)

Attendez que je finis –instead of finisse- mon jeu : ‘ Wait for I finish my game ‘ (I cannot reproduce the grammar mistake in English – well, I think so ... ) . It needs a subjonctive instead a present...

3. Kick for demoleft, because we need to see ourselves as others see us
throughout the world.

I can imagine a large number throughout the world can't face more of that Bush guy either. I know we can't.

I want to throw things at the TV when he is on there.

4. You can't imagine...
...how many stupid people here in Italy - mostly depending on TV and persuaded they're informed - don't know anything about USA, Bush, oil connections.

They say "the Democrats" and think just about Clinton. They say America and think just of NY, or LA - ignoring the vast reality of middle-west cities and towns which many young people left to join the army and get some money. They don't know the age of most of the US Fallen in the war - is it still 21?

They ignore everything but their own private life and interest. Perfect supporters for Bush, wouldn't they be?!

An example. The majority in Italy wanted our soldiers to get out of Iraq but almost 50% gave then their vote to Berlusconi at the last polls for Government in 2006. That is, they voted for one who took us in the war and for one of the biggest supporters of Bush.

Part of Europe and Italy in particular have their own responsibilities in this tragedy. When White Phosphor was used in Fallujah - well, I can't believe we were there and ignored the matter.

Same story in the Balkans: many soldiers involved there are getting ill for thyroid disfunctions. But informations about it all are always secreted - covert. I mean - the real information - bare truth.

So I can assure you - with or without Bush: we (europeans) can't give you lessons in Democracy! We need to be taught so badly!

ciao and thanks!
