If martial law is declared, what will you do?
Hypothetically, in the event of a "national emergency" and Bush unilaterally declares Congress null and void, suspends the courts, and declares martial law, what would you do?

He now has the power to do so.

Would you support that move or fight the government?

1. There are too many real things to worry about...I don't deal in
hypotheticals anymore, it's too exhausting and it rarely goes anywhere. :-)

16. Right. Real life is tough enough without pondering endless hypotheticals.
It's just not worth the effort for me.

2. I live in the middle of the desert and am in craptastic health.
I would either at least try to get somewhere greener so I'd have a chance to survive the food shortages, or I'd expect to end up dead if things got too violent in the area.

Who would enforce it? Our army is depleted. Besides, this country is too big, too diverse and we all have plenty of guns.

8. Why would they declare martial law? Everything is running just as they want it to
without any measures that might wake up the masses. We can't stop the occupation, punish traitors, impeach corrupt judges/attorneys general/Residents, get answers to any questions about Katrina, get an honest mass media, or any of the other things we supposedly voted for in November. Why the hell would they run the risk of doing something as drastic as declaring martial law?

The army is gone, very little national guard is in country and the police don't have the numbers to stop the rampant crime already going on let alone enforce martial law. I can't see how it could happen.

22. I agree with you 100%, but for other reasons.
As a former servicemember, I will guarantee to you that our nation's military is made up of basically good people. BETTER than good in most instances. Absent Army, broken Army, overstretched National Guard, whatever.

I don't think American Citizens will ever again hold other American Citizens at gunpoint the way the Japanese were treated in WWII. As a former servicemember, I would stand on the rooftop and shout that OUR ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE, MARINES, OR COAST GUARD would not be the instrument of American Incarceration Under Martial Law. Not going to happen. If anything, I'd count on our military to be the GUARANTEE that it never happens.

Martial Law ain't comin'. der chimperor ain't declarin' himself permnent DICKtater uh da gubmint. 2008 WILL come. We will be wide awake and in the driver's seat after November, and this will be a painful, shameful, sorry memory ala Vietnam in 20 years.

Let's hope that when we get the wheel back, we can get this big huge cadillacwithbaldtiresandbadshocks back in the middle road and keep it there.

24. Hypothetically,
it would certainly wake the people of this country to the fact that they've been believing in a lie for at least the last 6+ years.

I don't think the military (what's left of them) would get behind him, and I don't think he has enough secret service agents to be his own personal guard. He'd probably be assassinated pretty quickly afterwards.

That being said I don't think it will happen. It would be a really stupid move to try to pull. On the other hand, this administration isn't known for how smart it is.

Q3JR4.

I am hoping that the people banking on Bushco incomeptence have it right.

31. It's hopeless
Bush says we are in Iraq to give the Iraqi people democracy but then says he's not in favor of an independent democratic Taiwan...

WASHINGTON — Tuesday was not Taiwan's day at the White House, as President Bush announced that the U.S. had asked the island republic to cancel a referendum American officials feel would be provocative toward Beijing.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,105239,00.html

Bush says we are in Iraq to give the Iraqi people democracy but what did we do when we "liberated" Kuwait?

Did we "free" the Kuwaiti people and allow them to elect a democratic government? No. We handed the country back over to the same hereditary king/dictator that ruled it before Iraq invaded.

How can you people that support Bush ignore this stuff? It is easier for you to believe the governments lies than accept the truth?

Do you believe Bush when he says he's putting a missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic to protect us from Iran?

That makes about as much sense as Russia putting missles a few miles across the border in Mexico and Canada and claimed they were putting them their to protect Russia from Chechnya.

Of course the Russian's don't believe us and are mad as hell.

And last but not least, Bush today "accused opponents of his proposed immigration measure of fear-mongering to defeat it in Congress, and took on his own conservative political base as he did so."

Translation... screw you all. I'm handing the country over to 100 million mexicans whether you like it or not.

Would some of you Bush supporters please explain this to the rest of us?

Tell us WHY you think this man is not doing everything in his power to destroy this country and re-start the cold war?

Martial Law? Hell, why not. He's about done everything else.
