Griffen Arkansas AG is resigning. ONE down!

It's official
The U.S. Justice Department has notified Arkansas's congressional delegation that Interim Eastern District U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin is resigning effective Friday, June 1. Jane Duke will become acting U.S. attorney. (This is the assistant in the office who the Justice Department once had said had to be passed over as an interim appointee because of her pregnancy. Since it's illegal to discriminate on account of pregnancy, Justice had to back off this statement.)

Still no word from the White House on selection of a nominee to put through the Senate confirmation process from a slate sent up by Rep. John Boozman.

"This is long overdue and a positive development," said Michael Teague, a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor. "Credibility is being restored to the leadership postion at the U.S. attorney's office. We have confidence Jane Duke will do a good job."

Griffin was placed in the job as part of an effort to install picks of Karl Rove in U.S. attorney jobs throughout the U.S. Griffin once worked for Rove. The politics of the move has become more apparent in a succession of congressional hearings. Pryor's criticism of the ouster of Bud Cummins to give Griffin the job and the use of a permanent interim appointment under the Patriot Act helped trigger what has grown into a national scandal. A law to end the president's ability to make permanent interim picks without Senate confirmation now awaits the president's signature.

1. Unfortunately, there may be a cloud with this silver lining.

I heard either on radio or TV today that griffin was in talks either today or very recently with fred thompson - ostensibly about thompson's presumed presidential campaign. I think it may have been on "Countdown." So unfortunately, we may NOT be rid of him.

Yep, it's "Countdown" - John Harwood - the reporter for CNBC and the Wall Street Journal, who's often a talking head on MSNBC, is quoted as saying, earlier today, that thompson aides were talking to tim griffin. Boom. There it is.

griffin is STILL in there, he's STILL a bad guy, and when thompson finally falters, he'll STILL be at large, and very able to take up the rovian mantle, unfortunately. They're just moving the furniture around.

7. Wouldn't that be some sweet justice?
Let's hope so. I wonder how many of 'em will wind up imprisoned, unemployed, disbarred, disgraced, bankrupt, and loudly turning to Jesus by the time this is over?

9. In Griffin's case, think it would be just be plain justice
The asswipe committed a felony, and we have testimony in Congress to back that up. Why hasn't this criminal been arrested?

11. True, but it would still taste extremely sweet.
And extremely lovely.

Not to mention MUCH deserved.

Did you happen to hear Randi Rhodes the other day? She wondered out loud about some GOP miscreant - maybe cheney or rove or some such unsavory schmuck - "why isn't he in jail?" Then, she suggested that as a possible tactic, a talking point that might be good to repeat whenever the name of one of these fuckers comes up. cheney? "Gee, why isn't he in jail?" gonzo? "Why isn't he in jail?" rove? "Hmm... why isn't he in jail?" And so forth. That notion should be attached to EACH ONE of these criminal assholes, BY NAME, EACH time they're mentioned. EACH and EVERY time. The better to allow connective tissue to start growing in the mind of anyone listening to that comment.

15. Griffin will probably be signing on with Fred Thompson.
If Dems are smart they'll nail him for vote caging and make the association that Fred's judgement is so bad he hired a criminal right out of the gate.
