PA Freshman (D) Altmire takes flak at Townhall for vote in favor of war funding

U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire faced blistering criticism last night over his support for tens of billions of dollars in funding for the Iraq war.

"The Democrats were put into office on the 7th of November to make a change, not to follow the Republicans," Ed Quinn of Richland told Mr. Altmire during a town hall meeting at the Shaler municipal building.

Elizabeth Donohoe of Forest Hills stood in the back of the crowded room holding a sign: "How many more will you sacrifice?"

Mr. Altmire, a freshman lawmaker from McCandless, has been a vocal opponent of the Bush administration's handling of the war, yet he joined 86 of his fellow Democrats last week in voting for a $100 billion emergency military spending bill. He has repeatedly vowed not to cut off money while American soldiers are still in harm's way.

The vote deeply angered local anti-war activists who supported Mr. Altmire's successful campaign last year to unseat Rep. Melissa Hart, R-Bradford Woods.

Give him hell citizens! Though he's not in my district I contributed to his campaign to take out Missy Hart. Glad his constituents are letting him have it! And thank you to my Rep Mike Doyle for voting NO!
