"Somebody told me he's the "ultimate papa bear."
This came out of the mouth of the breathless Mike Allen (formerly with the WP, now with Politico) a short while ago on CNN's The Situation Room. Wolf was doing a segment on Fred Thompson's impending candidacy.

Wolf showed the youtube video of Thompson speaking to Michael Moore--only Wolfie didn't include the part where Thompson, smoking a cigar, swivels toward the camera, says he's been looking at his schedule and doesn't think he has time to debate him) and of course--no chance for Michael Moore to respond, either.

This is what we are up against with the hapless and corrupted media--liberal and not. It is going to be a long primary season.

2. ah, jeez, now I'm feeling nauseous
This is precisely the butt-kissing the ever-compliant Media Heathers do for the GOP candidate.

6. Me, too. The point is Thompson is too chicken to debate Michael Moore, but clueless Wolf either
didn't get it--or, quite possibly, chose to ignore it.

Instead, they wet their pants reveling in Thompson's tough "papa bear" talk.

15. NYTimes: How Fred's Record Stacks Up
Edited on Thu May-31-07 04:47 PM by AtomicKitten
Yep, Fred's a good old boy.

Thompson sided with conservative groups and with most Republican senators in voting to cut taxes and spending; remove barriers among banking, securities and insurance companies; drill for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; protect gun owners’ rights; and oppose abortion.

My first thought, too. Colbert could have a ball with this.

4. I loathe Mike Allen
Mr. Pretzeldent Ass-Kisser, breathless codpiece admirer, bootlicking White Haus toadie ... I'm beginning to think that this Politico outfit is a total Republicker tool. Who working for them ever supports Dems?

8. Don't forget: "Papa Bear" took his family for a walk in the woods and left his house unlocked
This enabled Goldilocks to enter unchallenged. What if...now, I'm just asking...what if Goldilocks were...a terrorist!

Do we really want "Papa Bear" in the White House?

The next time CorpMedia compares Thompson to a "Papa Bear," remind them of the Goldilocks "breaking-and-entering" incident.

9. But isn't Thompson DYING?
I know that he is the great very white hope of the gop, but I wonder how comfortable they actually will be with a terminal candidate

11. Gushing over the "ultimate papa bear" tells me more than I would like...
to know about Allen's sexual fantasties.
Maybe he's hoping Thompson will take him out for some flyfishing and...other stuff

12. I would say "all hands on deck" time is approaching,
but apparently half of the "hands" have already jumped ship.

For whoever is left, we will have to write letters, go to meetings, send money to groups/candidates/organizations, and work work work to overcome the obstacles and get Dems elected. We can't think that writing here on DU is enough (although I am sure it is helpful). We have to consolidate power in the hands of those who can use it most effectively (Olberman?, MoveOn?, Rockridge Institute?, DNC?, HRC {no, not that, I mean the Human Rights Campaign}?. What PAC's and 527's do we want to support?).

Who's with me!?!? Yaaayyy!

A slight twist in the traditional story: this Goldilocks found papa bear's bed to be "just right."
