or do anything with it, especially if a camera is running. I wish him well, I know he will be great...

7. It is more thoughtful and considerate to give the candidates chairs. |
|
I cannot imagine standing for two hours while under the stress of responding to endless nonsensical questions. They have the option of standing when responding but can rest in between.
However, this is much too early to begin this campaign ritual. The good ol' days were much better.

Some places democracy is taken a little more seriously than it is in America -- because it is life or death for them to get what the people want or not.
Here these multimillion dollar beauty contests and ridiculously superficial hollywood-style debates may have just rendered people numb to the absurdity

17. the older I've gotten |

the more I've realized that I literally can't spend my life getting pissed off about everything. I feel disgust for the BIG things, but could care less about CNN investing money in what some might call a "beauty pageant". When I see that set and all the lights and cameras and such, I think of the jobs created for the carpenters, set designers, lighting designers, camera operators, film developers, painters, etc and so on.
And I'm not sure why you feel Hollywood and superficial should go hand-in-hand. Sometimes, especially during the darkest of days, a little Hollywood-style superficiality can do wonders to lift the heaviest of hearts.

feel free to wallow in your righteous anger about CNN spending a couple of bucks to build a set to highlight the Dem candidates during their debate -- oooo, money equals evil!! booga, booga, booga -- while I focus on changing more important things like, oh, I don't know, the integrity of our voting process and how our votes are counted as well as who those in Office actually listen to: corporations or their constituents.
and I'm not THAT old (only 38)! I just feel it's a waste of precious energy to get upset over something as silly as a set when there are soooooooo many other things to get really pissed about. To each his/her own, I guess. Some people get off on being perpetually angry; others, not so much.

be pissed and enjoy yourself. In fact, get really, R-E-A-L-L-Y mad!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun.
(P.S. Whether you choose to admit it or not, the families of those who built that set you've decided to hate and of those who will run the Debate tonight will actually get to feed their families because of the work they're doing or have done. I know, I know ... it doesn't work with what you've decided is The Truth, but it is a fact nonetheless)
peace.
