Extended downtime this week (Tuesday)

DU will be unavailable for an extended period Tuesday. We will be performing an important upgrade to our main database server. The downtime could last anywhere from 4 to 16 hours. We will be beginning the work sometime around 8am (eastern time) Tuesday morning.

We believe we have a handle on our recent stability issues. As some of you may have noticed, we have not had problems with crashes or corruptions all week, thanks to some changes that were implemented last Tuesday. The upgrade this coming Tuesday should hopefully put all remnants of those stability issues behind us and prepare the server for the upcoming primaries and 2008 election.

2. If they are moving to a SAN(which is what I would be doing with a site this size and this much traffic, hooked to a high-performance database cluster), it's a fairly common practice. The biggest time chunk will be just moving the databases over to the storage media and making everything talk nice to each other.
