I like vetos. I've vetoed a lot. I can't wait to get my hands on Washington. That was it.

10. He is trying to portray himself as a "small government", low spending Republican |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 10:03 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
He calls for capping discretionary spending at inflation minus 1% and then threatens to veto any bill that contains spending greater than that amount.
Essentially, he seems to be running as another Reagan who, unlike Reagan, will deliver in office. Romney is also advocating a huge increase in the Pentagon budget, continuing Bush's tax cuts for people like Mitt Romney and Paris Hilton. The only place he will actually cut the budget is the relatively small portion that is dedicated to discretionary spending (when the repukes say they want to curb spending this is what they mean. They, of course, will increase overall spending via the Pentagon). This is consistent with the general Republican obsession with savaging programs designed to help the poor.
The ad ends with a clip of him with his wife. Clearly, Multiple Choice Mitt is trying to subtly contrast his stable marriage with Giuliani's three marriages and McCain's two.

8. Recently Read Cape Wind--Covered Mitt and the Wind Farm |
|
I recently read Cape Wind: Money, Celebrity, Class, Politics, and the Battle For Our Energy Future on Nantucket Sound. Mitt Romney was portrayed as one of those Massachusetts politicians catering to those wealthy Barnstable County summer-home owner NIMBYs determined that the Nantucket Sound wind farm would not be built.
So we voters are supposed to replace a guy who tailored energy policy to the wishes of the oil industry with a guy who opposes wind farms because they obstruct the views of the water by the wealthy on clear summer days?
