Somebody needs to ask Hillary where she stands on Scooter Libby
Would she pardon him if she were president?

How does her campaign feel about Libby's sentence--do you think there would be any conflict within her ranks if she decided not to pardon him?

1. No
she wouldn't pardon him. don't be silly.

And since she has absolutely nothing to do with this case, I disagree that she "needs" to be asked about it.

5. Because her campaign manager thinks he should be pardoned, and wrote a letter on his behalf
I haven't heard from Hillary on this, and I'd like to hear from her how she feels about Libby, and the whole Plame affair for that matter. I'd like to know how she would handle such problems, were she the president.

6. What campaign manager?
If you're talking about Carville, he doesn't work for her campaign.

Her campaign manager is Patti Solis Doyle

10. Sorry, chief campaign advisor. Semantics will not distance Hillary from Carville.
And we still haven't heard Mrs. Clinton's reaction to the sentencing.

11. Have any of the candidates responded?
Additionally, he is not a "chief campaign advisor" - I don't believe that he works for her campaign in any capacity, but likely offers her informal advice. He holds no position on her campaign.

chief campaign adviser is penn. Now you're telling us that we should tank her because her chief campaign adviser is Carville.

16. Not thrilled about their reticence, either.
No doubt--I'm not here to lobby for another candidate, I just have to question Hillary Clinton's affiliation with James Carville on any level after his position on Scooter Libby's crime.

23. Not just mere convenience- but based on a relationship that has been going on for years.

Perhaps next you will tell us that Paul Begaula never talks to Hillary or her people any more as well.

26. Is anyone denying that they have a relationship?
Carville is neither her chief advisor nor her campaign manager - both of those claims are completely false. Any advice he gives to her is given in an informal capacity.

27. that's not at all what I said - but thanks for trying to frame it DU-style
The point is Begala and Carville worked for Bill Clinton in the infamous War Room. Now they are tired, washed-up pundits on tee-vee.

They support Hillary but do not work for her campaign in any official capacity.

To continue to bang on Hillary for what those assclowns say and do is a gratuitous 6-degrees of separation, but go right ahead. Knock yourself out.

I don't view politics as a Sharks vs. Jets thing, at least not intraparty. And I care about truth and reality. I'm not interested in this petty bullshit jihad that is woven for the most part out of whole cloth. But don't confuse my apathy for siding with anyone in discussing this crap; I truly don't give a shit. Rage on.

28. It's what *I* said. Carville & Hillary as conservative DLCers are likely to agree on many matters.
I'd like to know if this is an excpetion or not.

And if you "dont give a shit" one way or the other, then stay out of the discussion.

I dont see how Carville working for her AND being a member/employee of her flagship organization, the DLC, equals a tenuous connex- it seems pretty strong to me.

I thought you didnt care one way or the other?

This deal was hatched long ago for "Scooter" to take the fall and Bush will pardon him and they'll ride off into the sunset laughing at the dumb American people who let them get away with treason.

My point is that he should serve his jail time til the end of Junior's reign of terror. If the judge dismisses his bid to be out on appeal, it's a moot issue.

25. So we know if she agrees with us or not?
Or is the Libby issue not focus tested enough for Hillary to discuss whether she agrees with her long-time associate, Carville?

Just b/c some might not like her answer doesnt mean others dont want to know what it is.

32. I'm not trying to spin, I may be misinformed as to the extent that Carville is working for Hillary
I'm still just not happy that she, nor any of the other candidates are taking a leading role in speaking out about this case.

There should be at leastone Democratic candidate who will go as far as Fred Thompson is pushing his misinformation campaign on the right.

If so, then I doubt DUers opposed to the candidates you named would let it slip.

But I'm with you- I'd like to hear their statements on this as well.

37. FWIW, I'm for Libby getting even more jail time. The OP should take into
consideration the many personal relationships that are forged in Foggy Bottom. The Matlin/Carvilles and the Libbys may have kids in the same Scout Troop or Bobby Sox team.

For all we know.

I'm sure she could just say "President (sic) Bush will render that issue moot before I am president."

That doesn't answer the question, but it's probably true.
