Why the speculation on a Libby pardon? Of COURSE it will happen... |
|
I do not understand why anyone here at DU would wonder IF a Libby pardon will happen. It's inevitable. The only question is the timing. Can anyone who truly has followed this Administration believe that * is his own man? We have overwhelming evidence that Cheney pretty much is the grey eminence here and God knows that even if that wasn't the case, * has about as much independence of thought as a carrot.
If Scooter gets sent to jail, he'll be pardoned. If they manage to draw out his jail time till the end of *'s regime, then he'll get pardoned then.
It WILL happen. I can't see any other possible outcome from this gang in Washington. All the speculation is just hype and entertainment pablum for the MSM vidiot talking heads.

2. Can you tell me how that's possible? |
|
Can you explain how Cheney will suddenly decide that pardoning Libby will make the Administration look bad? Why should he care? Why should * care? They're all just running out the clock.
The only reasons I have heard thus far that argue against a Libby pardon are those that posit a modicum of shame or sense in the current Administration. Do you want to go to bat on those odds?

3. I'm leaning towards this idea, also. |

Bush doesn't care what people think -- he will do whatever he wants. I have a feeling that a pardon for Libby is coming.

5. Cheney has no pardon power. |
|
Libby can sing...but he'll make himself look worse.
Bush is a spiteful, unforgiving troll.
So why should he pardon someone who messed up and made him look bad? For Cheney? It's Cheney's fault (never Georgie's).
Why would running out the clock mean any good thing for Libby? You're connecting things that do not necessarily connect in Georgie's tiny brain.
George doesn't have to pardon Libby. Especially not to keep him quiet. He can kill him if he wants him quiet.

pardoned, it will not be by the vice president. The VP has not got the power to pardon Libby. And that's not just in the context of the office -- while Cheney has and has had more power than any other VP in our history, he has lacked the juice to get Libby pardoned. He has been one of the forces behind the movement to get Bush to pardon Scooter. They tried hard last December, and it didn't happen.

4. John Dean gave an interesting discussion on KO about this. |
|
A pardon would indicate there was communication between those involved in this affair. But it was not a simple business of just pardoning. It has implications of guilt associated.
But the bottom line was that in this group they didn't need to communicate with words. A nod and winkk from Cheney could suffice. And Scooter would know. Go ahead and lie to Congress, and we'll pardon you.
I think that's how it went. I have crap for brains. I lived through the 70's. :)
