4. Okay - tempers flared in Alabama State House
Repuke landed a punch on a Dem during a break. Tempers were flaring before but then the two had words during the break. The R decided to respond to something with a haymaker. The R claims that the Dem called him and SOB thus insulting his mama.

16. Jeez, that was quite a punch!
He wasn't playing. I know it caught the Dem by surprise...it WAS sudden...but still, it knocked him down.

I know nothing about the Alabama legislature...does this sort of thing happen often?

That's some mark on his neck.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A Republican state senator who punched a Democratic lawmaker in the head expressed regret, saying "that's not the way grown men solve their problems," but he said he won't immediately apologize.

of seven year olds.

22. It's not the audience, it's the ownership who have the low mental capacities (and are GOPers). (nt)

12. My take on it was that the Democrat, although stunned, was snickering about it
while the wild-eyed, red-faced Rethug was out of control to the point of having to be restrained by a group of colleagues.

That CNN "anchor" should have his bank account investigated.

13. Bullcrap. The freak who threw the punch was being held back by others.
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 02:45 PM by Straight Shooter
If the Dem had thrown a retaliatory punch, he would have been called a bully.

Dammed if you do, damned if you don't. CNN can kiss my arse.

edit for clarity

15. That's why Herman Melville's appellative* is so useful. . .
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 03:03 PM by Journeyman
Call him a "Son of a Bachelor" and you get a two-fer: not only does it sound like you've called him a son of a bitch, you've effectively labeled him a bastard to boot, and usually the recipient is too flustered trying to figure out what you've said they've no time to respond before you walk away.

*Edit to add: Melville uses this putdown in Moby Dick.

14. Expel him
No explanation or reason necessary; just expel him. And I don't care what the other guy said. When you raise your fist, you've lost. When you strike someone else, the "game" is over, and you don't get to play anymore.

Shameful actions by a man apparently beyond shame.

20. Why can't..
.. assault charges be filed? Is the senate floor a "law-free" zone?

The Dem should file charges. Period.

21. I think in virtually every state it is illegal to hit someone in the face intentionally
This Senator obviously broke the Law. How can he remain a Senator. The illegal act is on tape for all to witness. Not only should he lose his position as Senator but he should be sued in Civil Court and actual criminal charges filed against him. If the Democrat does not do that then it will become apparent Democrats don't believe in the Laws of our Land any more than Republicans do. We just can not allow this out of control juvenile behavior to continue. It is because of such juvenile attitudes that America has the Bush* Cabal running things. (into the ground)
