Supporters of Barack Obama will be taking to the streets tomorrow in what the campaign is calling a “Walk for Change,” a nationwide effort to build grassroots support.
Among those taking part locally is Angela Lewis, who has organized a walk in her Mount Vernon/Fleetwood neighborhood starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
While most of Westchester’s Democratic hierarchy is supporting hometown candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, Lewis said she beleives Obama is the better candidate. She also believes it’s time that the Black community had a larger voice in national politics.
“I have a lot of respect for Senator Clinton,” Lewis said. “In my opinion, she is a politician’s politician…I want a change. I don’t see how the same old politics is going to help us.”
Obama, she said, is “a very positive candidate, he has a very motivating campaign.”
Lewis and about seven or eight supporters expect to begin their “Walk for Change” at the Westchester Garden Apartments on Gramatan Avenue. They will knock on doors and pass out Obama campaign literature.
