Meek: I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton

One day after he was poised to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek told her campaign that it was ''not authorized'' to use his name.
Sources close to the campaigns of Clinton and rival Barack Obama told The Miami Herald on Thursday that Meek was throwing his support to Clinton. Meek had told some Obama supporters he was backing Clinton, and he was discussing how to make the announcement with her campaign, the sources said.
Asked about Meek's support Thursday, the Clinton campaign sent out a press release announcing that Florida U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings and Debbie Wasserman Schultz were going to serve as national co-chairs, and that another ''major Florida endorsement'' would be released in a conference call that afternoon.
The call was canceled at the last minute, the Clinton campaign said, because of a ''scheduling conflict,'' and no further announcement was made.
On Friday, Meek sent a letter to Clinton's campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, that reads: ``I have not endorsed Senator Clinton for President. Therefore the Hillary for President Campaign is not authorized to use my name, image, or this incorrect news report in any of your campaign literature or promotional material.''
Meek told The Miami Herald Friday that the newspaper did not need to correct its story.
