Republicans are ... retarded democrats?
I got offended at first, but when I read more of the article I liked it.
What the author meant that republicans are about 3-4 years behind the democrats in rhetoric.

A talk show host collected quotes from Edwards/Kerry campaign of 2004 and McCain/Giuliani/Romney quotes from 2007 and asked his listeners to identify whether it was coming from Edwards/Kerry or Rudy McRomney. Three correct answers in a row win the price. Nobody won.

---

So I gathered 18 quotes – nine each from the three leading Republican contenders this year and the leading Democrats in 2004 – and read them to callers on my radio talk show, Dangerous Talk, on WPEP in Southeastern New England. I asked callers to guess whether it was "Rudy McRomney 2007" or "Ed Kerry-Clinton 2004." For three correct answers in a row I offered a pair of free movie tickets as a prize.
<...>
And I ran out of quotes before any of the callers answered three in a row correctly. Nobody could tell the difference between the Republicans today and the Democrats three years ago.

The Republicans are developmentally delayed Democrats – "retarded Democrats,"

1. I don't find much humor in this usage of the word "retarded".
I think it sucks.

11. There's no valid use of that term anymore. It's just a hateful buzzword
that promotes ignorance and bigotry.

is inherently evil and must be controlled and made subservient.. Democrats believe man is good and needs some help to achieve their full potential which is unlimited.

there may be some cute stuff.. but the rock bottom of the differences is as different as if they were from another planet

4. Believe it or not, Republicans use that same definition.

A Liberal reading this might think, "I'm sure a Conservative would phrase that differently." However, what you wrote is actually almost an exact quote of something I read by the president of the Indiana Right To Life. I have since run that quote by several Conservatives and found that they agree with it.

To them that statement makes Liberals sound evil. While to us that statement makes Conservatives sound evil.

We will never agree on bedrock philosophy. Which is why politics should stick to the issues. Because you CAN come to the same decision on an issue for completely opposite reasons.

3. I find your OP very offensive
Someone I love very much has developmental delays, and she is the most beautiful person I know.

Just because some people are born with disabilities, does not give you or anyone the right to use them to be 'funny'.

I am biting my tongue here....

6. *sad face* I didn't mean to hurt anybody with my post.

I was going with "Occurring or developing later than desired or expected; delayed." definition.

Could be a language problem. I am not a native English speaker and might not recognize how offensive the word could be.

8. Actually over on Free Republic I'm sure no one would be offended.
We have slightly different sensibilities than they do.

In a way the word, the way you were using, seemed to truly mean "behind the times" as "retarded" can be (for example: "our construction project has been retarded by the weather").

It might be a little like someone who hasn't been around for 70 years complimenting a cheerful person by telling them "how gay they are."
