Why do pukes refer to us as The Democrat Party?
Can someone explain this to me? I don't understand what they're trying to get at. Yeah, we're Democrats. And what?

5. Or "demonRATS".
Usually used by the most saliva-flecked amongst them.

4. It's a diminuation of the real name...
Which is, as incorporated "The Democratic Party". This is their clever, clever way of being disrespectful.

And tells you all you need to know about what passes for cleverness with them.

Straight out of 3rd grade. 4th, tops.

14. Because you can't do the one thing that I also can't do:
Think about making money from the second you wake up in the morning, until the second you fall asleep at night.

If you can do that, you can be rich, even if you're not all that smart. But you have to be able to do that to the exclusion of everything else in life.

I, for one, would rather have less money and more life. As I suspect you would as well.

23. Yep
But every time I look at the folks who the televangelists fleece, or the DC consultants, I see a fortune I'll never have.

While I would like to say that it is because I am ethical, I must confess I couldn't spout the bullshit these people want to hear with a straight face. The first time I would spout off about "compassionate conservatism" or "Jesus supports war in Iraq", I would crack up.

This is why people started calling them the Republic Party now.
If they can't get the adjectives right for Dems, then there's no point in getting it right for Repubs.

11. Let's be real here: we do it to them, they do it to us. That's the way it is.
It's like my mom used to tell me when I was a kid and got teased by my brother--you can dish it out, but you can't take it. The more I let my brother know what he said bothered me, the more he did it. You cannot make people stop saying what you do not like. They can't make us stop, we can't make them, but we can get indignant and bent out of shape over it.

19. Not really, no.
I mean, yes, we anonymous bloggers do it on our liberal blogs, while their official spokespersons and RW pundits do it on television, radio, in newsprint, and even on official RNC web sites. I've never, ever, ever heard of a Democratic party spokesperson or liberal pundit doing it in any similar kind of official capacity.

There is no parity here between us and them.

22. So, can you point me to a television or radio news program
where an official or semi-official representative of the Democratic party, or a liberal pundit has referred to an incorrect and insulting name for the Republican party? I would be extremely interested to find such a thing, because I have never encountered such a phenomenon before.

25. Neither the original post nor mine said anything about tv or news programs,
or any kind of officials. I am referring to in general, like how the OP referred to Republicans as pukes. That's what happens and there is really nothing to change it but to get mad about it. I consider there to be much more important things to be insulted by or to get bent out of shape about.

24. Crunchy is exactly right
Turn in to C-SPAN and you'll hear Republicans calling us "the Democrat Party" on the floor of the House and Senate. In the early morning on Washington Journal, you'll hear the pundits and political advisors and publicists use the same term. Bush has even used the term, altho he backed down when confronted about it, like it was all some sort of innocent mistake.

I have never ever heard a Democrat of any official standing at all refer to Republicans or the Republican Party as anything other than that. Not even on liberal talk radio, as far as I know.

I guess the good part is you can always tell when the 'pug is interested in legitimate discussion or is just playing to his/her base. Can't say I've heard much of the former.

13. Because .........
In the early 1990s, apparently due largely to the urging of then House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Republican pollster Frank Luntz, the use of the word "Democrat" as an adjective became near-universal among Republicans. Republicans have used the word "Democrat" as an adjective to describe things or people of the Democratic Party -- including referring to the "Democrat" Party itself, even though that is not the party's name. The ungrammatical conversion of the noun "Democrat" to an adjective was the brainchild of Republican partisans, presumably in an attempt to deny the Democratic Party the claim to being "democratic" -- or in other words to deny their enemy the positive connotations of its chosen rightful name.

And, they're a**holes.

between a noun and an adjective.

BTW, Diane Rehm corrected one of them on her show yesterday. http://wamu.org/programs/dr/07/06/12.php#13220

Ruth Marcus, Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/21/AR2006112101223.html

"Democrat Party was used, pardon the phrase, liberally by Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy. According to the Columbia Guide to Standard American English, " Democrat as an adjective is still sometimes used by some twentieth-century Republicans as a campaign tool but was used with particular virulence" by McCarthy, "who sought by repeatedly calling it the Democrat party to deny it any possible benefit of the suggestion that it might also be democratic." The word also achieved a prominent run with Bob Dole's especially ugly reference to "Democrat wars" during the 1976 vice presidential debate. "
