Why I'm Having Trouble Supporting Hillary |
|
During the summer of the last election cycle, in 2006, I was working my butt off trying to get Democrats elected to Congress and state offices. Hillary came into Denver, and did a fundraiser. For herself. She sucked about $3 million in political contributions out of Colorado, where the money was desperately needed, and back to New York allegedly to support her own Senate re-election bid, which was a foregone conclusion. I thought it was a very selfish act. She could have come in and raised money for Colorado candidates. I was really pissed, and still am, as are lots of others.
Any thoughts on why I should support her after this?

1. You don't have to support her now |
|
But, if she gets the nomination, then I would GREATLY encourage you to vote for her in the general election.

how could I vote for one of those ten white idiots. But I want to be enthused, and I'll be working in the campaign, someplace, for somebody.

3. She has been a huge giver to other candidates in the past. |
|
That's how politics works. She's not just going to hand it over to a state party organization to spend as they please.

7. In fact, I believe she was the single biggest contributor to other Dems in 2004. |
|
Not sure about 2006. But I think she was a big contributor then, too.
I don't have a source to back that up, so take it with a grain of salt. But I am pretty sure it is true.

9. Several other Democrats, also up for re-election, came to |
|
Colorado and helped raise money for tight Congressional races. Why not her? She needed it less than anyone.

4. Thank you..You've just supported how I feel about Hillary. |
|
I've known women like Hillary and although they spend a great deal of time trying to show they're just like the average person they give themselves away in their self serving methods. I suppose I'll vote for her if she gets the nomination but then I know in the years to follow I won't want to admit it. It's this gut feeling that I don't trust her. I have a hard time forgiving anyone in power who voted for the war.

5. This is unfair criticism, IMHO. |
|
Hillary was a candidate for US Senate in 2006. When you are a candidate, it is your job and responsibility to raise the money you need to run your campaign, wherever you can find it.
If candidates in Colorado needed more money, it's their responsibility to raise it wherever they can find it. Heck, they should have held fundraisers in New York. There's lots of money there.
But it is not Hillary's job -- or any candidate's job -- to refrain from raising money on the (highly unlkely) chance that they are going to take money away from some other hypothetical candidate. This sounds more like an excuse from lackluster Colorado candidates. There's plenty of money out there. Hillary can't steal all the money from all the other candidates.

11. Uhh.......Obama and Edwards do it to. |
|
I guess you are left with Kucinich.
Everyone does it. Until you make a stand and say, our money stays in Texas, or whatever the state you are from, then they will come and take money.

12. So...you don't support Hillary..... |
|
I see some of the other candidates going to states and taking money. Should Obama only take Illinois money, Edwards Tennessee and Richardson NM...come on now...WHICH CANDIDATE has not traveled to other states to fund raise.
If you don't like Hillary you don't like her. But when you have a good candidate who will beat the pants off all the MEN candidates why not support her...Oh I get it SHE'S A WOMAN, I MIGHT HAVE KNOWN .

14. She's too pro-corporate for me |
|
Among other things, she supports increasing the number of H1-B visas so corporations can lay off American techies and replace them with lower-paid foreign techies.

18. Well,it's not like people were forced to give the money to her |
|
she didn't steal it, people gave it by choice. And I'm guessing most of the people who donated to her also donated to candidates in Colorado - she certainly isn't preventing them from doing that in any way. And, as others have pointed out, she's one of the largest contributers to other Dem candidates.
Also, I think a lot of peopler realized that her fundraisers in '06 were really for her presidential race and not so much for the Senate race - at the beginning of this year, she transferred $10 from her Senate campaign fund to her presidential campaign.

19. Hillary came to Louisville and raised the most for the Ky. Dem Party |
|
ever raised by anyone in one visit. Bill came later and raised money for our 06 candidates and helped us get rid of Bush lover Anne Northrup. Part of the reason that the Ky. Party is reviving is due to those two dems. Obama also came and did a rip-roaring speech at Slugger Field prior to the 06 elections. I thank him also. It was not a money raiser, but a rally. Now if we can only get rid of Mitch and Fletcher, life might get back on track here.

Okay, so I've gotten 20 or so responses to my query about why I should support Hillary. So far, the answers seem to be in a couple of categories: a)she's not really taking money from Colorado and/or everybody does it; 2) Petulance; 3)I don't like Hillary because she's a woman. That one ticked me off.
Actually I'm trying TO get over what she did and support Hillary, but not one person can give me a reason, apparently.

23. You asked why you should support her after what she did |
|
so I think most people are responding to the specific reasons why you have a problem with her. I could give you my own reasons to support Hillary, but I think Bill does a pretty good job laying a lot of them out: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/video/27.aspx

Richardson also sent a good one. Obama's was lame but at least he had one. Nothing from Edwards or any of the others. This was in Georgia.

Did Dean come there too? Or the DSCC? Or the DCCC? How about mail or email solicitations? Are they OK? Perhaps it's the people who choose where to give their money you need to convince.
