What about Gravel?
I watched Gravel's debate performance on YouTube and he seems like an amazing candidate. What do you all think of him? If you are rooting for somebody else please try to keep your perspective clear when you respond to this.

Gravel2008.us

To me this guy comes across as a sane and normal Kucinich (who I also -like- but don't think he has the media image necessary to win.)

Look what's been done to this country. As much as I like Hillary and Obama they primarily represent the interests of the wealthy. It's nice they include the poor to some extent.

2. I'm not supporting him but I like him a lot
I'm an Obama or Gore supporter but I am really glad that Gravel got back into politics. Its good to have his viewpoints addressed in the debates. He is a more sane Kucinich, but I still don't think he has the backing, support, and money to be a front-tier candidate.

I would like to see him in some capactiy of public life after the election process is over.

8. Student, Senator Obama has never been a member of the DLC

Get your friggin facts straight. YOUR candidate is the DLC'er!!!!

Senator Obama in 2003:
"You are undoubtedly correct that these positions make me an unlikely candidate for membership in the DLC. That is why I am not currently, nor have I ever been, a member of the DLC."

http://www.blackcommentator.com/48/48_cover.html

Do you and others here think that if you bash a candidate long enough, you'll actually attract people to your way of thinking?

Seriously.. is that what you're thinking?

30. Do you really think he's a candidate the same Party "insiders" who see Hillary as "inevitable",
and Obama as a "rock star" want some old guy shouting all that "left-wing bullsh*t" into a mic to be anywhere near the primaries? He's Kucinich on speed. He's Nader on truth serum. He's the primary candidate most likely to "go Postal" and take out his competition during a debate.

In this Party of wimps, jack-asses, and DLC cullusion and "bi-partisanship", Gravel is poison... and I mean that in a good way for him.

Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 05:34 PM by NYCGirl
He then walks over to the bank of the lake and picks up a large rock and throws it in the water and walks slowly away.

The other shows Gravel in the woods, gathering sticks, then he sits down next to a campfire. The camera looks into the fire. This goes on for almost EIGHT MINUTES!

Edited to add: Forgot to mention — not ONE WORD is spoken in either of these epics.

22. Synopsis
"Rock": Close up of Gravel staring into the camera. For a long time. A very long time. A very, very, long time.

Gravel turns and walks away from the camera down a path next to a body of water. In the medium distance, he stops, turns to the right and picks up a large stone. He carries the stone over to the edge of the water and heaves it into the water.

Gravel resumes walking away, eventually disappearing in the distance.

I haven't seen the "Fire" video, but I've heard it's just as riveting.

6. Combination of the above
There are many things to like about Gravel, the Fair Tax is not one of those things, and it's moot because he has the same chance of becoming President that an otter has of winning the Belmont Stakes.

Pity, really, but he'll never raise enough money to be competitive. Wish it were otherwise, but it's not.

15. Gravel should be listened to
I am troubled, but not surprised, that Mike Gravel has been made an object of ridicule. I think part of it is his age -- the "crazy old coot" thing, plus the fact that he has not been "focus grouped" into some amorphous PC product.

Like Kucinich, he is the authentic voice of reason and the American Constitution. Let's see -- out of Iraq, which we never should have been; no war with Iran; high priority to stop or reverse global warming; supports gay marriage and gays openly serving in military; eliminating minimum sentences for "drug war" crimes; ending NAFTA; supports RoevWade; reinstituion of the American Constiution; reversal of disastrous Bush era. Heck YEAH, Senator Gravel!!

I personally took great pride when he confronted those who voted for the Iraq war, and for those who strongly consider bombing Iran. I agree -- they are all falling over each other (except for Kucinich) to bomb Iran -- which is utter madness. THAT's why he said, "You people scare me." Those people scare me too. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss -- and the hypocritical Democrats among us will soon be defending Obama's war, or Hillary's war, or Edward's war, in the same manner W worshippers defend his choice to occupy Iraq and lead thousands of young Americans to die or be hideously maimed physically or psychologically. I say bullshit to that.

He also hit the nail on the head when he emphatically asked -- "What are you so afraid of?" He's questioning the whole culture of fear that the Bush Administration has carved into the American culture and made so many surrender their rights and liberties, and accept war crimes, and that is enriching the military-industrial complex beyond imagining. I agree -- "Islamofascism" is a laughable fiction, but it is being kept alive, in one form or another, by both parties, as it seems to be the focus-group-think response. Relax.

I was angry the way the other candidates smirked and shuffled their feet as he spoke. They were hiding being exposed for some of the disturbing policies they support.

Mike Gravel has my admiration and support. I am proud of him because he dares to speak the truth, expose hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle, and warn the American people that they need to be very careful about what they are getting our country into if they support the current policies of many of the candidates, many of which overlap with W.

The two guys to watch are Mike Gravel and Ron Paul. Their message is resonating with people who have despised the Bush era. Maybe they don't have "charisma" or the unbridled ambition to fight one's way to the top -- but these boys are the guys to really listen to.

Ha ha -- but of course they don't have a chance. We can only hope We the People consider what they say, and demand the "winnable" candidates to dare to be a true American again.

Clearly those commercials weren't for TV, and while I'll agree that they were poorly executed, I won't agree that he is "insane" for making them. "Making waves" is my understanding of the rock in the water video. "Lighting a fire" is my understanding of the fire video. Clearly these LONG form videos were meant to create buzz. They've done that, just not the right buzz apparently.
