SO MUCH FOR MR. NICE GUY...
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 09:34 PM by Tellurian
NO MORE MR. NICE GUY

Well, well, well, isn't this just swell. According to a story in the New York Times today, Obama's above the fray image is going to need a patch up job. Mind you, I never thought politics was anything but a contact sport, so to speak. However, that's not exactly Obama's pitch

"I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics. ... But challenging as they are, it's not the magnitude of our problems that concerns me the most. It's the smallness of our politics. ..."

A Message From Barack Obama

21. Oh- they're looking all right..
...lots of food for thought in these links.. here's an example:

"But not once in the Stephanopoulos let's-all-get-along interview did I get the feeling that Barack Obama wants to be president to install the beliefs of the Democratic Party, or that we even had the ideas that will take this country where we need to go after the most disastrous presidency in modern times. Or that Obama wants to take advantage of the Republican collapse to drive a stake through conservatism's very heart. Instead I got the distinct "capacity to get people to recognize themselves in each other" impression. I don't want any Democratic leader, especially a Democratic president, seeing conservatism in themselves."

sorry for the bolding...I think it important, if you don't, be objective and keep an eye open, is all I ask!

4. What politics exactly does Mr. Obama want to change?
<snip>
It's the smallness of our politics. America's faced big problems before. But today, our leaders in Washington seem incapable of working together in a practical, common sense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions.

And that's what we have to change first.

We have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Americans.

This won't happen by itself. A change in our politics can only come from you; from people across our country who believe there's a better way and are willing to work for it.

Years ago, as a community organizer in Chicago, I learned that meaningful change always begins at the grassroots, and that engaged citizens working together can accomplish extraordinary things.

So even in the midst of the enormous challenges we face today, I have great faith and hope about the future - because I believe in you. <end of snip>

That sounds like ....to be continued!

8. The problem is...Hillary hasn't planted any stories..
Obama is playing the politics of personal destruction. He's done irreparable harm to his image because he doesn't have a plan or a strategy in place. He's been forced into an ad hoc strategy to keep up with Hillary. She's running his legs off!

19. Reply was appropriate to the poster's reference of a mobster's friendship.
My concern is that the biggest mobster in the world has celebrated his closeness with particular Democrats who claim leadership roles in our party.

Does THAT bother you?

Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 12:07 AM by ripple
and of course, my first thought was: when was he ever nice?

It's clear that every effort will be made to portray Obama as a hypocrite, panderer, superficial, whatever. Haven't you yourself made that your life's work, Tellurian?

Despite your efforts, Obama will win the general handily, while Hillary won't. He just needs to get the voters to the polls for the primaries. And I think he can, despite your efforts to reinvent him as a villain.

Tell me, Tellurian, if Obama gets the nod, will you vote for him in the general?

15. answer the question please
I work for Obama because I'm convinced Hillary will lose the general in the same manner as Kerry and Gore before her. Not because of her, but her team. It's the same guys. One thing they know is how to bungle away a lead. I'm absolutely positive they will do it again.

But I would still vote for Hillary if she were the candidate.

Would you vote for Obama?

30. that was just a generic battle cry
The election cycle has begun, elbows are sharpened, rhetoric is jacked up with snark, and the typical primary jostling is going down.

The Supreme Court is out of control and the best we can hope for is that the odds don't further tilt in wingnut favor. I'm more interested in taking the WH and getting a veto-proof majority in Congress than which particular Democrats wins the primary. It is absolutely critical the next Supreme Court justice is appointed by a Democrat.

Hey, it's all part of the game. You can't take the virtual bickering, bitching and moaning for more than what it is. All it is, is sharpening a pencil for the big swing, when we're all united, dancing on the head of pins, when it counts.
