I need help understanding this Pelosi e-mail that I got. This makes NO
SENSE TO ME WHATSOEVER.

<snip>

The President’s Plan is Not Working

This week, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid sent a letter to President Bush calling on him to listen to the American people and bring an end to the war in Iraq. They began the letter stating:

Last November, the American people overwhelming made clear their desire to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. Yet, at the start of this year, you announced a substantial escalation of our military presence in Iraq. This so-called “surge” was clearly at odds with past experiences in Iraq, the wishes of the American people, and the advice of many senior military leaders, including General Douglas Lute, your “war czar” nominee. Nevertheless, you proceeded to call up thousands of additional National Guardsmen and Reservists, extend the tours of tens of thousands of brave troops already in Iraq, and plunge our forces even deeper into Iraq’s civil war.

As many had foreseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results. The increase in U.S. forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation. It has not enhanced America’s national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on U.S. forces have increased. In fact, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for U.S. troops.

It is clear that the President’s plan is not working. The escalation of troops has failed to produce the intended results, and violence remains high. According to a Pentagon report released this week, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for U.S. troops. The former head of the US training operation in Iraq, General Dempsey, said recently that after years of effort and a massive expenditure of resources training Iraqi security forces, Iraqi units remain uneven in their quality and reliability.

Congress will again send the President legislation to limit the U.S. mission in Iraq; begin the phased redeployment of U.S. forces; and bring the war to a responsible end. We hope the President will work with us to give our troops a strategy that winds down the war and is worthy of their sacrifice.

1. It's one of those up-is-down, bad-is-good, look-at-my-mouth-not-my-hands
pieces of mumbo-jumbo hocus-pocus designed to placate the masses, so we don't get too worked up over the House's Democrats complete surrender to the other side.

3. If you're trying to say that it's blatant bullshit, I agree. I just don't understand
how this woman would have the gall to send this shit around to people. Hell, sending this to someone like me, who knows how they voted on funding this criminal administration's pet projects, is just obscene. I HATE being treated like an idiot. Especially by people who I am expected to support (and I don't mean just vote-wise either).

4. It's called political survival... and it takes no "guts" at all.
Just the political will to survive at any cost.

It's disgusting, and I agree with you about being treated like an idiot. I think they really do count on us not paying too close attention until it's too late.

15. OH? A nice bit of 'now you see it, now you don't' if you ask me...
<snip>

Most Democrats voted against

In a highly unusual maneuver, House Democratic leaders crafted a procedure that allowed their rank and file to oppose money for the war, then step aside so Republicans could advance it. There were 194 Republicans in favor, as well as 86 Democrats, three members of the leadership among them. Pelosi and 139 other Democrats voted against the measure, as did two Republicans.

<snip>

This is how worthless Pelosi's NAY vote is. And Hillary and Barack. They knew what was going to happen. So they tried to score political points by a useless vote instead of fighting for what was right, to keep sending the original bill back to blivet * Co. Because the minute this shit passed, bush** announced that the military would probably be in Iraq for 50 years or more, just like Korea.

5. Yeah, I see what you mean...
It's a lot like sending your kid to the candy store with $5 and then complaining when he comes back with a fistful of high-fructose corn syrup, artificially flavored and colored licorice! x(

7. Is it gramatically correct to switch verb tenses in a letter?
At the beginning she the letter addresses the president as a familiar 1st person address, and then switches to tenses.

I would think that it should be in one tense....

8. Well, I'm certainly glad you hit on the real importance of this post,
Pelosi's grammar.

Shit, and here I was pitching a fit about her hypocrisy.

doing cartwheels at the prospect of her leading the democratic charge...

9. A lot of US that disagree on many things agreed on how OUR message last November
is being disregarded-this archived thread has no comments but hundreds of DUers posted their protest in it.

"NO:in protest of the 'vote' that didn't represent US, a silent thread"

You aren't alone when it comes to wondering what is meant by most of the junk that gets sent out by the "leadership" that WE voted in-despite the disfranchisement, micro targeting, chaining, electronic fraud, gerrymandering and rampant corruption.

To me, it's capitulation (OR WORSE) to "Money trumps peace, sometimes...'

11. I would like to park her jet and ask Pelosi to resign.
She has fed from the trough for twenty years. She is worth $93 million. She is out of touch with the voters and people like me. She could not possibly know the struggles my family faces. It is time for change.

17. Yeah, but remember this, she's gonna fight for those really important
things, like being able to take an adult child on their little travel jaunts, fully paid for by the taxpayer. That's when their 'spouse' can't travel with them. I guess old Nancy thinks we elected her entire damn family.

12. Thanks for the post and I signed up to receive future emails from House Speaker Pelosi
....What I got from this email is this:

<snip from the closing sentence>

"Congress will again send the President legislation to limit the U.S. mission in Iraq; begin the phased redeployment of U.S. forces; and bring the war to a responsible end. We hope the President will work with us to give our troops a strategy that winds down the war and is worthy of their sacrifice."

<end of snip>

Pelosi is giving us, the voters who supported her and the democratic party a commitment to stay on Bush's ass as commander in chief and president to fulfill on his promises and to complete the Iraq involvement. I would conclude from this letter/email that Pelosi is promising to give Bush and Cheney and yes the military high command a very hot and sweaty summer. These guys will all be back in September asking for another $100 billion and another 30,000 troops.

At that point Pelosi, Reid, the rest of the democrats in congress and the American people will be asking, "What happened to the $100 billion and the 30,000 troops that we authorized four months ago?".

I think we all know what the responses will be. "Sorry Senators, we can't recall. Oh, I'm not sure. I don't recall. We need to support the troops. etc.". Then the democratic party will have its issues for the 2008 election year pretty clearly laid out for us to gain a landslide majority in both houses and the White House.

14. It's a fake e-mail
I'm betting that the e-mail is fake. It would not be below the Republicans to put something like this out there just to make the Dems in Congress look bad. I would DEFINITELY check your source.
