Did I just hear Chris Matthews right? Anybody? |
|
Did he say that he thought that if Al Gore won the Nobel Prize that he (Al) would "tarnish it by entering the Democratic Presidential race." Did he say Gore would TARNISH the Nobel Peace prize if he decided to run for Pres after all? Have we finally fallen down the rabbit hole? Good grief.

|
Mrs Matthews is afraid of a real man being in such a place of power. Instead he would prefer to drool over Fred "the dog" Thompson's scent. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

However, although I know he didn't intend to, he inadvertently insinuated that the office of the presidency has been made so low and dirty by his poster boy *w, that it would tarnish anyone who ran for it. I love it when the talk show chin waggers and pundits go full circle and get caught up in their own hyperbole.

it that way.
They tell Americans they shouldn't be citizens concerned with good governance but consumers manipulated into voting through the use of spin not information.

10. He was saying that the presidency is a step down from the Nobel Prize |
|
and I took it to mean that in recent years the presidency has been tarnished itself. I agree with that. Bush has done such damage to the office of presidency I don't know if we'll ever get it back.
That's the way I took his statement, anti-Bush more than anything else.

I do not think that "Mrs" Matthews was implying that though. Matthews does not want Gore to run.

15. I didn't hear the whole thing...I was surfing ...but I agree with you ... |
|
that the office itself has been utterly debased by Bush, and Matthews insults the office with that remark. However....Matthews said (just before my tv, in its inimitable slightly delayed fashion, switched the channel on me.. that GORE would tarnish the prize by running for pres...and then it switched. I'll wait for a video replay if I can find one...but the attitude that a Nobel prize winner can then "tarnish" his prize himself..simply by running sounds like yet another crazy anti Gore talking point piece of garbage, being ginned up to attack him...just in case. (See the Daily Howler for a full record of this stuff.) I'll wait for the video replay.

20. No I don't really think he was meaning Gore tarnished the office in any |
|
I thought it was a straightforward description of what is probably the reality: the presidency is not what it was before Bush besmirched it. However, the Nobel Prize has never before been so besmirched.
Maybe I don't watch enough of Tweety to know him better, but that is what I took away from it.

Why would he want to get back into all that?
I don't think it was in any way a dig at Gore. In fact, I think it was recognition that Gore has, w/o the presidency, acheived a great deal more than some with the presidency have done.

25. Well, I think Gore is too good to sully himself by running...he should |
|
preserve his high standing so that he can continue to do things globally.
I don't think he'd be a guaranteed winner...he'd be slimed to death and people are stupid. It would break my heart to see him mocked and ridiculed.
Shit, that bastard in the Senate helped block his concert from being held in DC.....what an insult...and that would be just the beginning.
