Poll question: Are you still "waiting to be inspired" and do you agree or disagree with this statement....

<snip>

Per the campaign "how-to" handbook, this race will really kick into high gear after Labor Day. Much of what will have happened beforehand will be generally erased, as the short political memories will grow even shorter in the frenzied three months before the first votes are cast.

So I'm still sitting back, waiting, hoping to be excited and motivated. I don't want to be "vaguely satisfied". I want to be inspired.

1. Do you happen to know if Kos did a straw poll for June yet?

I saw the one's they had up for April and May.. but I don't go over there that often -- and when I went to look for their latest straw poll, I couldn't find it.

I do think that the majority of Americans are not paying attention right now.. I have close friends I talk to by phone from Florida, Montana, and Maryland (D.C. area) a LOT and the only candidate that they're familiar with yet is Hillary Clinton. Sure-- they've heard of Barack through his massive crowds; although no one has watched any forums or debates yet and I'll bet not one of them could tell me who the rest of the candidates are. Well.. the friend in Florida would know Edwards is in, but the rest of em .. not paying attention yet.

I'm surprised that the people who come on here posting every poll they can get their hot hands on.. but most of all.. I'm surprised that they put so much stake in them.

After all of the years of seeing what happens this early out, they still bow to the words of Rasmussen, Gallup, or whoever as if their daily poll numbers are the gospel.

It's sad really. Sad .. and it baffles the hell out of the rest of us..

2. I tend to think that expecting to be "inspired"
in this morass conjured by the corporate media is a bit like expecting to see for miles in the pea soup of a San Francisco morning.

I'm just glad to have better choices in front of me than the Republicans have.

3. My thoughts exactly
Just the thought of another 8 years of Republican hell is enough to 'inspire' me.

4. Sigh!!! I remember when Labor Day was made reference to....
It was in the September prior to the General Election....

Not the Labor Day 14 plus months before the election...

6. Yes I was thinking the same thing.
All of the candidates could go home for six months and very few people would notice.

I for one would welcome them not starting to campaign so early, it truly is a waste of time and money, and distracts from the real issues of the day. It should not distract from the issues of the day, it could actually highlight them, but for the most part, they don't want to talk about the issues, they just want to play it safe.

8. It absolutely politicize everything that they do....
This is perhaps the worst legacy to come from the Bush White House that every step every move has to be weighed against political strategy...

There will be no profiles in courage if the supposed courageous have a finger stuck permanently in the air...

7. I will only be inspired if Gore/Feingold enters the race.
Otherwise, we can just do without this election cycle as far as I'm concerned.
