Clinton leads GOP frontrunner by 5% nationally
Rasmussen, said by some on DU to be the most reliable polling outfit, now has Fred Thompson leading Giuliani in the race for the Republican nomination... and Clinton leading Thompson by 5% nationally.

Clinton's favorability improves, unfavorability declines.

1. That's good.
Still, I wonder how those numbers are in swing states. If for example, she is way ahead in CA, but even or slightly behind in OH, PA and Wisconsin, then it is not very good news.

3. I think likeability will be much less important in November 2008
The current president, George Walker Bush, has already made the 2008 election about competence and making a clear change. The big independent center of the electorate is ready for some real adult leadership.

It's already an rather uphill struggle for the GOP candidates. If they can manage to make fear the central issue of the campaign, they'll have a shot. If the rest of us keep reminding everyone that this is the home of the brave and that we've faced big ugly challenges before and pervailed and that terrorism is just the latest one, then we should see a Democrat become the 44th POTUS.

4. She's only leading Doofus by five? Not good. Obama smokes him by 13!
Actually, according to the Cook Report poll (just out), Hillary and Thompson are tied at 42%.

Obama wins 46% - 33%.

That's certainly nothing for Hillary's followers to celebrate.
