We need to understand how an independent/a true centrist effects things...If Hagel joins him, they can't be beat!

1. Yes, they can
Hardcore Democrats will vote for the Dem nominee.

9. hagel
is so NOT a left winger. just because one is against the war in iraq doenst mean he is a progressive. Hagel is anything but a progressive.

3. Unfortunately
I think you are right.:(
Especially if Hillary ends up being our nominee.
Hillary will get the party faithful--no doubt. But with Bloomberg/Hagel I don't believe that we would get any crossover and actually would lose some of our own disillusioned Democrats.

5. A true centrist?????
And what does Hagel have to recommend him except a belated dislike of the war?

Boy, it didn't take long. "Can't be beat." What a pantload.

10. Well, he is a decorated combat vet. And has foreign-policy smarts.
And he was rightly leery about the war from the start, although to his discredit he STILL voted for it. That's just assuming Hagel will be his VP pick--it might be a Dem. But, they can certainly be beat, just makes it a little harder for us if they run third-party.

7. This means it's unlikely he'll be the Unity08 candidate
a lot of folks feared he would be, and that he'd draw away votes. But Unity08 insists that their candidates be a Democrat and a Republican--as I understand it, no independent need apply. So maybe this is a good thing.

16. I'll have to go to Unity08 and see what they say about
independents. But as I understand it, they are looking for a split ticket to support rather than independents. Unless Bloomberg has made a deal with them.....

14. This certainly will puts a "crimp" in the election.......
if Bloomberg runs.

Currently it is the Independents that give Democrats the edge over the Republicans.

Take the independent vote away from the Dems during the general election, and the Republicans come out ahead, IMO.

15. I'm reading/hearing he was a longtime Democrat. One person said
progressives in NYC love him.

Can't wait for Malloy tonight. He knows all the background on things since the Beatles.
