I think bloomberg became an indie because:
He was a democrat who became republican in name only because the dem field was crowded and no repukes were running. He calculated that his chance would be better this way.
He is very democratic in his thinking.
I do think he is looking at who will be the nominee. He is thought to be part of the new wave of pols who are not the same old story of DC. The new thinkers who are not really ideological but, want to do an overhaul of politics.
I believe he became indie to position himself for a run if the dems pick someone who cannot win the general.
I think he doesn't want any of the repuke field to win and carry on with more of the same.
And I think he is getting ready to jump in if the dems pick Hillary because no moderate repuke, indie and half the dems will not vote for her and so, we will end up with a republican.
He is doing the same thing as Gore. Jump in the race to save the white house if the dems pick Hillary.
I really think this is the reason. He knows Guillianni will implode eventually and the others are stupid. But, because Hillary is so divisive and polarizing and so many people do not like her, she would be the one dem of the top 3 who would loose an almost sure thing.

3. What is Bloomberg's relationship with the working people of NYC?
I don't trust a Wall Street hack running this country.

6. you should read up on him
he's a lot more progressive than you would expect from a "wall street hack"

he's done a lot in NY for a lot of social programs - one that comes to mind is low/moderate income housing

- also big on turning NYC "green" converting ALL NYC cabs to hybrids, planting a million trees...

Regardless of whether he's presidential material, he sounds like a good guy. Heart in the right place. And the couple of interviews I've seen reinforce that.

10. If the Transport Workers Union strike in December 2005 is any indication
Bloomberg is no friend of working people or union people.

The late great blogger Steve Gilliard had a lot to say about this strike, which resulted in victory for the TWU and egg on the faces of Bloomberg and Pataki:

maybe a little disgust at being associated with the pugs as well - that might have pushed him to do it now - after all, he could have stayed a pug til jan and then declared indy

9. Notice the OP's active imagination?
He is doing the same thing as Gore. Jump in the race to save the white house if the dems pick Hillary.

Just how does he know both Gore and Bloomberg are waiting to react to Clinton's nomination?
