Assembly passes marriage equality bill in New York |
|
Yesterday the New York Assembly voted 85-61 in favor of gay marriage. If the marriage bill passes in New York it will be a huge victory for equality. Considering Spitzer's the one that introduced the bill I think it's safe to say he'll sign it so the only obstacle is the senate. However, this is no small obstacle since the senate is controlled by republicans. Right now the bill isn't even slated to be discussed in the senate. Nevertheless it will be introduced eventually so everyone who lives in New York should contact your senator and tell him or her to support this bill.

4. Sadly, reading between the lines it sounds as though nothing will be achieved. |

I think it would be great if this bill did pass, but I think the extent to which it's chances of getting through the senate have been glossed over make me suspect it's certain not to.
Still, it's a step in the right direction, and if/when control of the senate changes hands, who knows...
Defeatist? Yes, at least in the sense that I expect to be defeated. That's not the same as "innaccurate", sadly.
