I just got a fundraising call from the DLC. I not so politely told them that I |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 02:23 PM by OregonBlue
was a Progressive Democrat and that I thought the DLC stood for EVERYTHING that is wrong with the Democratic Party. I told her I was furious that I got an email from the DCCC from James Carville, the very same James Carville who wrote a letter supporting Scooter Libby and who now has the gall to ask me for money. I told her I would not give one dime to any candidate who was not a Progressive!! I then hung up on her.
I now wish I had not been so pissed and had not hung up and had questioned HER on what in the hell the DLC is doing and why Progressives should support them.
Oh well, live and learn.

On edit: I wanted to make clear that I do not wish to delegitmize your feelings but yelling at some poor schlub doing a very thankless job is a poor vent for your frustrations. Nothing wrong with telling the operator you do not support the DLC and simply hanging up.
If you need to vent, you can always write a letter to the DLC and/or Harold Ford

If they don't want to be treated like an assholes, then they need to quit associating with assholes.

|
Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 02:25 PM by BluegrassDem
Unless she was getting nasty with you, I wouldn't have acted like that over the phone. That person is doing a crappy job as it is without dealing with such nastiness. Actually, if you were that rude, that phone bank operator could've easily kept your phone number and call you back and cuss your ass out.

10. I think what people are trying to say is |
|
you have a very good point, but if you had expressed it a bit differently to the operator and asked him/her to pass it along to the people in power there (vs. the operator/volunteer) that would have been better.
Can't change the past though. I definitely understand your feeling and completely agree about Carville's inappropriate and unhelpful behavior and not wanting to support that.

I don't see why they would even have your number for a fundraiser. I mean, it's not a part of the Democratic Party in a structural sense.

20. Probably the DLCC, a different group |
|
The DLC doesn't raise funds this way. I've been involved with the group for years, and the only time they ask for money is when you want the magazine or if you want to attend their national conference in July.
There is another group known as the DLCC, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. The DLCC is an adjunct of the Democratic National Committee, and does solicit funds for use in targeted legislative campaigns around the country. It's similar to the DCCC, the DSCC and the DGA.

|
They're the true elitists of the Party. They don't care about the working people, only those that will pony up the big bucks, expecting favors in return. They rank right down there with NAMBLA in my book.

They don't need to do that.
The DLCC, if it were that group, is the group that gets people elected at state and local levels...taking back state houses so to speak.

19. THIS JUST IN!! BREAKING!!!! |
|
Washington DC - DNC volunteer goes on a rampage!! Trashes office, overturns copy machine and lock herself in bathroom. Witness over hear her crying "I'm just a volunteer, I'm just a volunteer". SWAT teams were able to remove the distraught DNC worker with out use of force. The volunteer was identified as Myra Lopez of DC. Lopez, 23 is an immigrant from Chile who came to the US at the age of 9. At the tender age of 5, she witnessed the brutal murder of her parents at the hands of loyalist of Augusto Pinochet. Ms Lopez was taken to an orphanage in Argentina where she was raised by nuns until the age of 8 when she was adopted by a childless Argentine-American couple that brought her to the United States and settled into a safe and loving life in Virgina. Tragically her adoptive parents were killed in a car crash on the day of Myra's high school graduation. Because of a clause in her parent's will, she is unable to touch her inheritance until she turns 25. She is currently working as a waitress to make ends meat as she attends Georgetown University. It is her dream to become a lawyer to help orphan children in Chile.
She has been taken Georgetown University Hospital and is under suicide watch.

Not the DLC, though.
I once mistook the DLCC for the DLC, but I caught on before the end of the call, before I got all snotty with them.
If the DLC WERE to call though......

The DCCC JUST called me asking for a $150.00 donation!
No *hit.
I was VERY polite when I told him that I preferred to give to PROGRESSIVE organizations. I told him to WRITE DOWN my reasons (Cegelis, et al...) for NOT supporting Rahm Emanuel and the DCCC.
He got huffy and said "We are NOT the DLC".
I said "I KNOW you're not the DLC, but I don't want Rahm Emanuel hand picking MY candidates. I give what little money I have to the DNC and INDIVIDUAL, PROGRESSIVE candidates. If I want a corporate backed candidate, I'll give them my money directly."
Did I mention I was VERY polite.
